Mr. Bear Introduce
In the dynamic and bustling neighborhood of Flushing, Queens, a sweet sensation is captivating locals and visitors alike: Mr. Bear. This bakery has quickly made a name for itself by specializing in a beloved treat that is distinct from traditional American desserts—the Japanese-style cotton cheesecake. For New Yorkers in search of a unique and delightful culinary experience, Mr. Bear offers a product that is both familiar and excitingly different. The cheesecake is celebrated for its incredibly light, fluffy texture that falls perfectly between a creamy cheesecake and a solid bread. It’s a treat that is neither too sweet nor too heavy, making it an ideal choice for a delightful snack or a special dessert. The bakery's reputation for quality has grown rapidly, as evidenced by the sight of people carrying its distinctive orange box bags throughout the city.
Mr. Bear is strategically located on Prince Street in Flushing, a prime spot within one of New York City's most vibrant and culturally rich neighborhoods. This area is a hub of activity, with a constant flow of foot traffic, making the bakery highly visible and accessible. The location is just a short walk from major transit points, including the Flushing-Main Street subway station and numerous bus stops. This makes it an easy and convenient stop for commuters, shoppers, and residents alike. Its placement in a neighborhood known for its incredible variety of food means that Mr. Bear is perfectly positioned to serve as a destination for dessert lovers exploring the best of Flushing's culinary scene.
Mr. Bear offers a focused menu, but the quality of its main product is what truly sets it apart. The bakery specializes in providing a superior Japanese cheesecake experience.
- Original Cotton Cheesecake: The star of the show. This cheesecake is celebrated for its unique, fluffy texture and rich, yet not overly sweet, flavor. It's a dessert that has a cult following, often compared favorably to other renowned Japanese cheesecakes.
- Refrigeration Instructions: The bakery provides specific instructions for enjoying the cheesecake, noting that while it is delicious fresh out of the oven, its flavor becomes even richer and more complex after being refrigerated overnight.
- Free Samples: To give customers a taste of what they're missing, Mr. Bear offers free samples upfront. This is a great way to introduce new customers to their unique product and ensure they make a confident purchase.
- Convenient Takeaway: The cheesecakes come with a cake cutter and a spoon, making them perfect for taking home to share or for enjoying on the go. The distinctive square orange box also makes it a recognizable and appealing item to carry.
Several key features and highlights have contributed to Mr. Bear’s growing popularity and loyal customer base. These elements create an experience that is both delightful and memorable.
- Unique Fluffy Texture: The cotton cheesecake's consistency is a major highlight. It's a perfect blend between a traditional creamy cheesecake and a lighter, bread-like cake, offering a new and exciting experience for those used to regular cheesecake.
- Balanced Sweetness: Many customers appreciate that the cheesecake is not overly sweet or heavy. This makes it a great dessert option for those who want to indulge without feeling guilty, and it allows the rich flavor of the cheese to shine through.
- Pleasant Customer Experience: From the free samples to the friendly atmosphere, the overall experience at Mr. Bear is highly positive. The thoughtful inclusion of a cake cutter and spoon shows an attention to detail that customers appreciate.
- Affordable Indulgence: While a single cheesecake costs around $20 with tax, many customers feel that the price is worth it for the high-quality, delicious product and the pleasant experience. It is seen as a worthwhile treat or a special occasion item.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Follow their instructions — the cheesecake tastes even better after being refrigerated! I tried half of it two hours after it came out of the oven, and it was fluffy, but after refrigerating it overnight, the flavor became much richer. The cheesecake reminds me of Uncle Tetsu’s Cheesecake from Japan (they used to have a location in Times Square, but unfortunately it closed down during COVID). I’m so glad that Mr. Bear opened up and now offers us delicious, fluffy cheesecake!
April 27 · Emma ChangThe last time I was in New York, I saw so many people holding a square orange box bag and was intrigued! I knew I had to come for my next visit! 🥹I finally got to try it today and the Original Cotton Cheese Cakes from here are DELIICOUSSS!I was a bit skeptical because from images it looked pretty bready- so I wasn’t sure if it was leaning more towards cake or bread? It’s even hard for me to describe! It’s not a creamy cheesecake consistency, but it’s also not fully solid like bread! It’s right in the middle! It’s also not as sweet and heavy like regular cheesecake, so I didn’t feel too guilty taking multiple bites out of it!It also comes with a cake cutter and spoon! :)They also offer free samples up front! I remember the group in front of me were eating a bunch, I didn’t expect there to be any left but there was still plenty! 😄With tax, 1 cheesecake totaled around $20, which I understand is a bit much for how small the cake is. But I’d say it was worth it for the pleasant experience I had with everything! :)
June 20 · JenniichiiThe cheesecake tastes like I was eating a cloud, not too sweet. Very light and fluffy, but also delicious. Good balance of texture. I would for sure come back to try the chocolate and strawberry flavor!
April 16 · MelodyReview of Mr. Bear Japanese Cheesecake – A Disappointing Second ExperienceThe first time I bought a Japanese cheesecake from Mr. Bear on Saturday, March 29, I absolutely loved it. It had that freshly baked taste, soft and fluffy with just the right amount of sweetness—light, yet satisfying. I even recommended it to my friends, convinced that it was a great find. However, today’s experience was completely different. When I bought another cheesecake, I immediately noticed that something was off. The taste was sour, as if it was no longer fresh. It lacked the same quality that made me love it the first time. Concerned, I called the store to see if I could have it replaced, but they declined, citing a strict “no return, no exchange” policy.I was extremely disappointed—not only because of the poor quality this time but also because of their lack of customer service. A good business should stand by its products, especially when freshness is a key selling point. Unfortunately, I won’t be buying from Mr. Bear again, and I’m taking back my recommendation to my friends. A brand that doesn’t prioritize consistency and customer satisfaction isn’t worth my support.
April 01 · Dennis CatiponWe were gifted a Strawberry cheesecake from a family friend. Super cute, tasted fluffy with strawberry bits that didn't taste too sweet. We enjoyed how it isn't so heavy and really it baked fluffy and displayed in its heart shape.Next time, we can try to stop by and see what Mr. Bear store is all about.
