★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The best egg tarts in San Francisco.This cash-only bakery sells all kinds of baked goods, but I highly recommend getting the egg tarts. They use puff pastry, unlike some other Chinese bakeries that use shortbread dough, and the tarts all look perfect. Each egg tart costs $2, which is on the expensive side, but it's worth it. In fact, when I visited, I bought all the regular egg tarts left, which was eight of them. The Portuguese egg tarts cost $2.30 each and have a caramelized top, giving them more complexity.The employees speak Cantonese and English. There is no restroom or seating, but there is a library and a park close by. You can phone in an order.
April 28 · NealGreat bakery. Came for the egg tart, was not disappointed. One of the best in the city. They also make the Portuguese egg tarts (pastel de nata) which are also very good, but their egg tart to me is superior since it’s less sweet and has a lovely egg flavored custard. The crust on both versions are fantastic and flakey, really some of the best versions of each.Also got hot dog bun, taro bun, ham and egg bun, and pineapple bun, all good stuff. I’ve been on the hunt for the best pineapple bun in the city and this may very well be it. My partner loved the ham and egg bun! It’s such a simple thing, but Mr. Bread does an exceptional version of it.
April 03 · AprilI got several of the "normal" ("egg" $1.70 each, versus "Portuguese" $2.00 each) custard tarts. Perhaps I should try the Portuguese ones, which are supposed to be more caramelized and have a crispier crust, since the "egg" ones I had were good but not nearly as good as those from Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown, whose filling is richer and crust flakier. Still, a solid option, and it looks like their other items are popular too.Update: the "Portuguese" version is indeed more caramelized & has a more flaky crust, and I highly recommend getting these over the "egg" version...but I still think Golden Gate Bakery tastes a bit better (although their hours are frustratingly inconsistent and they're on the other side of the City)

They have some really good egg tarts and definitely come for the Portuguese style egg tarts because they are really good and authentic! They also have other baked goods and buns to try out so I would recommend come early and often!
November 09 · Wilson TsangThe Portuguese egg tart was nice and the filling is soft and eggy. The coconut tart was good. The HK milk tea (they call it Macanese milk tea on the menu) was mediocre - it was way too watery for this kind of tea.
