My Mom's BakeShop Introduce
Introduction / Overview
My Mom's BakeShop, situated in the culturally rich area of Los Angeles near Historic Filipinotown, stands as a culinary cornerstone for those seeking authentic and comforting Filipino cuisine. Far more than a typical bakery, this establishment operates as a trifecta: a traditional Bakery, a Dessert Shop, and a casual Filipino Restaurant. It’s a cherished local spot where the aroma of freshly baked bread mingles with the savory promise of traditional home-style cooking.
For Californians with an appreciation for authentic, family-run establishments, My Mom's BakeShop offers a genuine experience. The name itself suggests the ethos of the business—serving food that is reminiscent of home-cooked meals, with the warmth and care one expects from a "mom-and-pop" operation. The menu beautifully balances sweet and savory, featuring the highly celebrated Hot Pandesal alongside a generous selection of full meals, including various Pancit noodle dishes and Lugaw (Filipino rice porridge).
This blend of services caters perfectly to the local L.A. community. It serves as an ideal morning stop for a quick, affordable breakfast, where the Pandesal is often still warm from the oven. Later in the day, it transforms into a dependable destination for a satisfying Filipino meal, offering classic short-order dishes that are ready for a quick visit or takeout. While the establishment upholds the cherished tradition of quality and community, it is important for patrons to know that, like many local gems, there can be varying experiences regarding consistency, particularly with specialty items like cakes, which is a common factor when balancing a full bakery and restaurant menu. Nonetheless, the core offerings—the bread and savory dishes—remain a strong draw for loyal customers.

Features / Highlights
What makes My Mom's BakeShop a notable choice for the Los Angeles community are its commitment to tradition and its signature offerings:
- The Pandesal Experience: The shop is famous for its Hot Pandesal—soft, golden-brown Filipino bread rolls, often sold warm and ready to eat, a true comfort food staple. The affordable price point for a bag of ten is a massive draw for budget-conscious consumers.
- Savory Menu Depth: Unlike bakeries that focus solely on sweet items, My Mom's offers an extensive menu of authentic Filipino lunch and dinner entrees, making it a viable option for a full, satisfying meal.
- Comfort Food Selection: The diverse Lugaw (Congee) options, including traditional proteins, offer deep, comforting flavors perfect for breakfast or a hearty midday snack.
- Traditional Affordability: Patrons highlight the value, noting that the prices for staples like Pandesal are kept low, allowing them to support a local business without overspending.
- Mom-and-Pop Authenticity: The shop is regarded as a genuine, unpretentious local favorite, providing a taste of authentic Filipino home cooking that resonates with those seeking traditional, un-modernized flavors.
- Service Speed: Despite the line, the quick and efficient service ensures that patrons, particularly those grabbing morning bread, are not delayed.

What is Worth Choosing
My Mom's BakeShop is absolutely worth choosing for any Californian seeking an authentic taste of Filipino heritage, particularly for the morning staple, Pandesal. The soft, warm, and delicious bread rolls are the definitive highlight, prompting customers to share nostalgic stories of their childhood and to purchase multiple bags at once. The exceptional value for money, especially for the Pandesal, sets it apart from more commercial bakeries. Additionally, the availability of traditional, home-style Filipino meals, such as the wide selection of Pancit and Lugaw, makes it a convenient and genuine option for breakfast and other quick meals.
However, it is vital for patrons to exercise discretion and focus on the shop's strengths. While the bread and savory short-order dishes receive enthusiastic praise, there is documented feedback regarding inconsistency and quality concerns with perishable specialty items, such as cakes. One customer's deeply concerning experience with a spoiled cake and bland dish serves as a cautionary note, emphasizing that while the goal is always to support local businesses, quality control is essential, especially with higher-priced, complicated items.
Therefore, the discerning patron should prioritize the shop's widely praised, constantly replenished baked goods, like the Pandesal, and the prepared Filipino comfort dishes, such as the noodle and congee varieties, for a reliably excellent experience. By focusing on these specialties, customers can wholeheartedly support this local mom-and-pop treasure and enjoy the traditional, affordable flavors it does best, reinforcing its role as a vital cultural hub in the Los Angeles food scene.

My Mom's BakeShop Reviews

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I'm only going to give you a review on the pandesal and service.Came here cause my friend posted it on Social media. And I wasn't going down this path but I ended up since the 101 was packed! Why not! Only 3 people in front of me and it wasn't long wait. I asked if they take credit card but they said ONLY if you spend $10. So why not I bought five bags.. The bread was still warm. So I had two while driving home. Had to give one to my niece and tell her the story of "when I was young." She loved it and so did I. Soft and good. Got home and put some butter on that baby.It reminded me of Betsy Bakery and tasted like it to!!! Will come back for sure when I crave it. $2.25 for ten pandesal!! Yes not the usually Betsy $1. For 12.
February 25 · Ayisha GabriBought a cake here as additional dessert for mom's birthday. The cake was served almost immediately when I got home (5 minutes later) as my nieces are the ultimate uber cake fiends! ...and grandma was always happy to indulge. The sponge cake was very dry and the mocha buttercream frosting had a tangy unusual flavor. It was then that we realized the bakery was not only selling older but SPOILED/RANCID baked goods😔I also bought another dish I forget the name of - not memorable because it was bland. These food items were not cheap so I was really disappointed and seriously contemplated calling the health department bc I was concerned my experience was an unlikely anomaly.Yes, I strongly believe we all should support our local mom & pops and small businesses, but I can't continue to patronize any establishment that hold their profit margin (never mind quality and value) above the health and well-being of the very community they depend on.
July 24 · All You Need Is LoveI came during business hours. Sign outside said "Come in, we're open!" I tried opening the door; locked. Saw another sign which said "Will be back at 11:30." It was 12nn. I know things happen but.. really? It isn't asking much for businesses to be professional.
January 10 · Mark Anthony ManuelMy Mom’s Bakeshop is one of the best hole in the wall spots in Los Angeles. Located in the heart of Historic Filipinotown, this big shot is a real treat because you cannot find the same type of offerings anywhere else. Authentic to the car, the small bake shop offers many Filipino delicacies.ByFirst of all, when you walk in, you can immediately smell the hot and fresh pan de sal, the Filipino’s version of a bread loaf. Well you can find this bread in any other Filipino grocery stores, what makes it special here, is that this is freshly baked, and piping hot. It reminds me of when I live in the Philippines and you would wake up and get this fresh bread. Nowhere else in los Angeles or even California I think offers hot bread like this. Another one of their great offerings is their brazo de mercedes: This is a rolled cake with a sweet de Leche caramel filling.Lastly, the owner is a sweetheart. She definitely remind you of your Filipino Tita, grandma, or mom when you walk into the bakeshop. Ditch the chains and give this place a try!
December 14 · Kevin CasasolaThe most delicious bread pudding here. I've moved away but still find myself salivating thinking of it sometimes. The owner is so kind too. Support this business!!
