Nielsen’s Pastries Introduce
For over five decades, Nielsen’s Pastries has stood as a cherished local institution in the Washington community, bringing the warmth and delicious precision of authentic Danish baking to Seattle. More than just a coffee shop, this establishment, located in the vibrant Lower Queen Anne neighborhood, operates as a genuine Pastry shop, a traditional Bakery, and a welcoming Coffee shop all in one. It’s the perfect blend of European charm and Pacific Northwest friendly professionalism. The core mission of Nielsen’s Pastries is to create an experience that embodies "hygge"—the Danish concept of cozy contentment—making it a perfect place for Seattle residents to pause, connect, and enjoy the simple, high-quality pleasures of life.
Since its founding by John Nielsen in 1965 and its current operation by the passionate local owners, this spot has specialized in meticulously handcrafted Scandinavian treats. The extensive menu goes well beyond what you might expect, encompassing everything from flaky Danish pastries to hearty savory sandwiches, ensuring there is a delectable option for any time of day. This blend of offerings is what defines Nielsen’s: a commitment to authenticity coupled with the versatility of a local neighborhood cafe. Washington users appreciate the focus on "doing the right thing," a philosophy that guides both their commitment to paying their staff fairly and their dedication to sourcing the best possible ingredients for their signature recipes. It is truly a place where great dessert is a highlight, and the cozy environment makes it a fantastic destination for the entire family.

For anyone in the Washington region seeking a genuinely unique and high-quality cafe experience, Nielsen’s Pastries is undoubtedly worth choosing. The primary draw is the authentic, handcrafted Danish baking heritage that has been maintained since 1965. In a city with countless coffee shops, Nielsen’s distinguishes itself by offering specialties you simply won't find at typical establishments, such as their whole Kringle, the unique "Potato" dessert, or the beloved Snitter. Their commitment to one spectacular Marzipan Cake, instead of a vast menu of mediocre options, speaks to a dedication to true mastery.
Beyond the menu, the atmosphere is a critical factor. The deliberate cultivation of "hygge" provides a cozy, low-key refuge from the fast-paced nature of Seattle life. This feeling is extended to the whole family with the inclusion of a kids' nook, a feature that makes the cafe especially appealing for local parents. The operational commitment to an efficient "Quick visit" model and the acceptance of all major payment methods ensures that tradition doesn't come at the cost of modern convenience. Whether you are craving a great dessert, a unique breakfast pastry, or a welcoming place to enjoy a cup of coffee, Nielsen’s Pastries provides an authentic, high-quality, and community-focused experience that continues to make it a cherished local gem in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great lower Queen Anne bakery and coffee shop specializing in Danish pastries. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly. The environment is cozy. The coffee and pastries are delicious. There's a kid's nook in the corner that keeps little ones occupied. Fantastic coffee shop for the entire family.
July 29 · Christopher WalkerLove this place. I enjoy the unique pastries, the low key danish vibe, and their focus on “doing the right thing”. Particularly a big fan of their whole wheat pastries- I wish that were common.Their “potato” is really good. The perfect level of sweetness and creaminess to make it melt in your mouth. There’s a small kids space too.
July 23 · Saksham BI enjoy visiting bakeries all over the world. Nielsen’s is a bakery not to miss when in Seattle, a staple in the community since 1965. The interior may not have changed much and shows its maturity, adding to its appeal. The traditional Danish pastries are fantastic and so is the coffee. There are a few tables to sit and enjoy this cozy, family bakery. The service was excellent and friendly. I’m glad I had an opportunity to visit!
April 29 · Bill B.Oh my goodness!!! I drive 30 miles to have the potato and snitter! All my friends want me to drive them there after I share pastries with them!We love their pastries, the staff are amazing and the vibe of the bakery is “welcome to all!”We LOVE this place. Been going here they were in downtown Seattle but I like the Lowe Queen Anne location better!Everything is worth the calories so if they are out of Snitters…it means you got there too late and you should try something else💖Support our local businesses!!!
August 30 · Rose BachI absolutely love Danish pastries! The potato dessert is a must-try and quite popular. The cafe is small and cozy, with a wonderful vibe. They aren't open in the evenings, so mornings are the best time to enjoy. Parking is difficult to find.
