What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Nonna Mercato is a clear decision for any Southern California resident or visitor prioritizing quality, fresh ingredients, and genuine artisanal skill. In a highly competitive market like Long Beach, Nonna Mercato’s dual excellence as a bakery and a restaurant makes it truly stand out.
The primary reason to choose this establishment lies in the unwavering quality of its products. The pastries, especially the extensive range of croissants, are consistently ranked among the best in Long Beach, praised for their generous size, perfect texture, and rich, flavorful fillings. If you are a fan of sweet brunch items, the Ricotta, Honey, and Pistachio Brioche is a mandatory selection—a perfectly composed dish that reviewers found to be not too heavy and an absolute revelation in texture and flavor. Similarly, for savory breakfast enthusiasts, the Baked Eggs are highlighted for their freshness, vibrant flavor, and perfect execution, showcasing the kitchen’s ability to handle complex savory dishes with the same mastery as their baked goods.
Furthermore, Nonna Mercato embodies a commitment to the dining experience. The availability of free, convenient parking—a rare luxury in California cities—removes a significant barrier to visiting. Once inside, the dine-in option allows for a relaxing experience, even if the popularity of the place often means a wait time of over 30 minutes, which itself is a strong indicator of the food's high demand. For those who prefer to skip the line, the comprehensive takeout and delivery options ensure the high-quality food can be enjoyed at home. While some patrons suggest obtaining coffee from a nearby spot if waiting for a table, the overall quality and unique menu items—particularly the signature brioche and baked eggs—make the occasional wait and potential slight detour for a beverage entirely worthwhile. Nonna Mercato is a jewel in Long Beach’s culinary crown, representing the best of California’s contemporary baking and Italian-inspired dining.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is my favorite bakery in Long Beach. Their pastries are very good quality and sized generously. Their croissants are incredible. I highly recommend the plain croissant, strawberry and cream croissant, nutella croissant, and pain au chocolat. The filling for the strawberry and cream croissant is the best. I believe it is whipped strawberry mascarpone. Their GF muffins have a nice texture. The matcha croissant is not my favorite, as it is somewhat lacking in matcha flavor. I would compare the coating to the matcha Pocky coating. As for their brunch, it is also incredible. The baked eggs are my favorite. The sauce is very good and the eggs were cooked perfectly, with bright orange yolks. It's incredibly fresh and vibrant from the bright tomatoes and fresh herbs, but also balanced out with creamy soft cheese. It's served with a fresh crispy baguette. I would recommend the brioche toast as a shared sweet appetizer. We ordered ours with a side of blueberry jam. One area that they could work on is their coffee quality. The cappuccino was quite bitter and the milk was not steamed very well. I ordered the peanut little, which is made with housemade peanut milk, layered with espresso and some milk foam and topped with cacao nibs. I would not recommend this drink because it has a strange texture. It's somewhat gritty and the cacao nibs mean you have to chew when you drink. I have also tried the banana buzz, which I found to be very watery and it did not have a strong banana flavor. Instead of ordering coffee here, I would recommend walking down the street to get a coffee at Coffee Drunk while waiting for a table for brunch, as the wait is usually over 30 minutes.
September 21 · Nolan TakleCame here for Brioche with ricotta, honey, and pistachio. Got two croissants which were Strawberry & cream and Bacon & onion for togo. For Brioche I requested for honey on the side because I prefer to adjust the sweetness by myself and it was perfectly scrumptious. Millions out of ten! Brioche itself was soft, buttery, and tasty so it complimented very well with ricotta and honey plus a bit crunchy from pistachio. Oh one bite and I was blown away. My taste buds were dancing happily. Let’s talk about croissants. Normally, I tend to like savory croissants more than sweet croissants. However, after I tried both of them, strawberry and cream is the winner. I really like the filling. I’m not sure if it’s mascarpone or something else that went really well with strawberry jam. It’s so freaking good! Bacon and onion croissant was not bad at all but as I stated earlier, strawberry & cream is the winner for me.
August 13 · Aornchuma JunthanopI had a great experience overall! The service was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. We tried the country bread, carbonara pasta, and Nonna breakfast; all were flavorful and well-prepared. The food really stood out.The only downside was the coffee. I had the “Banana Buzz,” which sounded promising but turned out quite watery and underwhelming. Coffee may not be their strong suit, but thankfully the excellent food more than made up for it.Be prepared for a long wait if you're going for brunch as it gets busy! Still, we’ll definitely be back.
May 25 · Michelle MAbsolutely in love with this cute and Earth toned chic eatery and bakery. They’re limited (in a good way) on seating. They don’t seat you until you have your full party. When you walk inside there’s a bakery that kind of seems hidden. They have bread, muffins, and croissants for sale inside (not listed on dine in menu really). They also sale individual beverages inside too. When I sat down with a friend to dine, the table was set so cute and aesthetically appeasing. They pour you water from a glass bottle (sophisticated 😅). I ordered the quiche which they serve it with bacon or veggie. Come before 10:30am if you want veggie because it sales quickly. It came with a delicious salad. I loved having Marissa as a server!!!! She made the entire experience definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. She was so attentive to our table, explained the menu, made suggestions, and was very conversational throughout my dine in experience. She is there Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday ✨🌸 Their menu also consists of yummy lunch items and some pasta 💛 If you’re hesitant to try, I’d say give it a shot! Worth every penny! Oh yeah ☺️ you walk away with a card at the end with the name of the restaurant which is so thoughtful and rare 🥹💕
April 14 · Ekko HendrixSo Nonna Mercato gets packed and for good reason. We recently stopped by this Bixby Knolls hot spot for lunch. Parking was a bit difficult but we found street parking. We ordered a sandwich and a pasta plate. Both were delicious. We will definitely be back to try other plates and the bakery pumps out some delicious patties by the looks of it.
