Roji Bakery Introduce
Welcome to Roji Bakery, a highly-rated local favorite nestled in the vibrant La Brea neighborhood of Los Angeles. This charming spot has quickly become a go-to destination for Californians seeking an exceptional blend of Japanese and French-inspired baked goods, offering an authentic yet innovative take on classic pastries and breads. Roji, which means 'street' in Japanese, perfectly captures the inviting, neighborhood feel of the establishment—a warm space where locals and travelers alike can gather for high-quality, freshly-made treats.
Roji Bakery stands out in the bustling Los Angeles food scene by combining the meticulous craftsmanship of Japanese baking with the buttery richness of French techniques, often using high-quality ingredients like Isigny butter from France. Whether you’re stopping in for a quick morning bun or looking to pick up a loaf of their signature, cloud-like Japanese Milk Loaf, Roji provides a comforting and delicious experience. The bakery's mission, born from a partnership with a Japanese bakery that originated in Kumamoto, Japan, is to offer the nostalgic comfort of classic Japanese baked goods while putting a unique, modern spin on the menu. This dedication to quality and cultural fusion is evident in every bite, from the sweet treats to the savory sandwiches.
The bakery is not just about the food; it's about the atmosphere. Customers consistently praise the warm, welcoming environment and the friendly, passionate staff who are happy to offer recommendations and share their love for baking. The space itself has been described as having a simple, classic, and industrial-chic aesthetic with plenty of seating inside, making it an ideal spot to settle down for a relaxed moment or grab a quick, delicious pastry on the go.
Roji Bakery is conveniently located in the Mid-Wilshire/La Brea neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, making it a central and easily accessible spot for many Angelenos. The exact address is 807 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036, USA. Its proximity to other neighborhood fixtures, including the Japanese restaurant Sake House Miro (with which it shares ownership), cements its status as a local hub.
For patrons planning a visit, accessibility is a priority. The bakery features a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot, ensuring a comfortable visit for everyone. As is common in this busy part of Los Angeles, Roji does not have its own dedicated parking lot, meaning visitors will need to rely on street parking options, which include both free and paid street parking spots in the surrounding area. The location on La Brea Avenue, while a major, busy street, attracts a diverse crowd, from neighborhood residents on a stroll to construction workers grabbing lunch, and customers who travel from farther away specifically for their unique Japanese-style bread and pastries.

- Curry Pan: A popular, hard-to-find savory Japanese treat consisting of Japanese cheesy curry with sweet corn wrapped in dough and coated in bread crumbs.

When visiting Roji Bakery, especially if you are new to the world of Japanese-French fusion pastries, there are a few standout items that local patrons consistently recommend. These choices represent the best of Roji’s unique offerings and are excellent starting points for your culinary adventure.
First and foremost, the Japanese Milk Loaf (Shokupan) is their signature product and a source of deep nostalgia for many Japanese-American customers. It is praised for its unparalleled softness and subtle sweetness—a truly different experience from traditional Western loaves. If you're craving something savory, the Curry Pan is an absolute must-try. It's an authentic taste of Japan that is hard to find locally, offering a satisfying combination of cheesy Japanese curry encased in a light, fried dough shell.
For a classic bakery favorite with an Roji twist, the Cinnamon Roll comes highly recommended, known for its light, airy texture and perfect glaze, earning it a spot as one of the most liked items. The Shio Pan (Salt Bread), a soft, buttery, and slightly sweet crescent roll, is also a highly popular choice for a simple yet incredibly satisfying bread item.
If you visit later in the day, remember that the most popular items tend to sell out quickly. As one customer noted, arriving on a Sunday afternoon means a near-empty showcase is possible, but even in those moments, the quality shines through, such as with the rich and crunchy Chocolate Almond Croissant. To experience the full range, an early visit is definitely recommended.
Beyond the baked goods, the deli-style options are also a highlight. The Chicken Katsu Sandwich, served on your choice of their house-made bread, is consistently hailed as one of the best sandwiches in the area. Similarly, their Egg Salad Sandwich is a top-rated choice, known for its rich and creamy filling on house-made bread. Roji Bakery isn't just another stop for coffee; it’s a destination for high-quality, authentic Japanese-inspired baking that provides a warm, homey experience right here in the heart of Los Angeles.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Homemade Japanese bakery goods located in the heart of La Brea neighborhood. I highly recommend the Salt Bread ($3.50), Curry Pan ($5.00) and Apricot Cream Cheese Danish ($5.00). Friendly staff.Plenty of seating inside. No dedicated parking lot, street parking only.
September 07 · YB SNot doing any research, but the look and feel entering the bakery could already tell me it's been there for awhile. Yeah, that kind of local long-standing bakery which I bet are lots of people favorite to-go based on how long its existence has been. The interior was simple, classic, and could tell not much changes have been made.Coming on Sunday afternoon, you might have guessed it right that the showcase was near being empty. Many have been sold out, but I was lucky they still had the chocolate almond croissant I wanna try.The size was quite petite compared to common ones, but the generous chocolate filling and the deliciously crunchy almond layer on top would be called the winners! I also loved how it looked simple but the taste was simply comforting. I would surely go back to try more and next time would make it earlier in the day to get the complete selection!
August 10 · Jessica GabrielaThis place is incredibly cute, it's a little small with a lot of passion behind it. The service is very nice and they make you feel cozy. They also sell small tickets among they're bakery and coffee options. A there's some art to view as well.
July 11 · Mikey MartinezIt’s hard to find but once you walk in, it’s a nice bakery with a small section to sit down. Japanese bakers /owners prepare Japanese style breads and pastries. Happened to find my favourite bread - azuki-whipping cream bread. Made my day.🥰
July 30 · Naoko N.Amazing Earl Grey scones and friendly service. After discovering that Roji Bakery offered Earl Grey pastries, we had to give it a try. We were hoping to get the Earl Grey rolls, but they were sold out, so we opted for the scone instead—and it was phenomenal. We also tried the matcha croissant and raspberry almond croissant, both tasty, but the Earl Grey scone easily outshined them. The service was nice, and while the prices were a bit on the high side, the scone was absolutely worth it.
