Rose Ave Bakery Introduce
Rose Ave Bakery: A Creative Hub of Asian-American Flavors in Washington, D.C.
Located in the bustling Woodley Park neighborhood, Rose Ave Bakery has firmly established itself as more than just a place to grab a pastry—it is a destination and a cultural landmark in the District of Columbia. Recognized as DC's first modern Asian American bakery, Rose Ave is the brainchild of owner, founder, and Head Chef Rosie Nguyen, who transitioned from a career as a pediatric nurse to pursue her passion for baking and recreating the Vietnamese flavors of her childhood memories.
The core mission of Rose Ave Bakery is ambitious and heartfelt: to reflect the palate of Asian Americans and to share knowledge, culture, and Asian flavors to all. This translates into a menu that expertly blends familiar American pastry formats with unique, authentic Asian ingredients like ube, pandan, black sesame, and matcha. The result is a selection of baked goods that are creative, delicious, and, notably, often described by patrons as "sweet, but not too sweet," achieving a perfect flavor balance appreciated by a diverse DC clientele.
The bakery quickly overcame a challenging start, opening just as the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020. Through perseverance, a focus on online pre-orders, and strong community engagement—including partnerships with organizations like The Trevor Project and Chefs Stopping AAPI Hate—Rose Ave has grown from a small counter into a flagship cafe. This commitment to both culinary innovation and community uplift has earned them high praise, including being chosen as Eater DC's Bakery of the Year in 2021. Rose Ave Bakery is truly a reflection of the blending of cultures, memories, and a shared desire to create a safe space for the community to enjoy something meaningful and delicious.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This bakery offers a fast and friendly service. Their donuts are the best in DC. Unlike other donuts that are sweet and greasy, these are soft and chewy on the inside. I can tell they are freshly made because the bakery is filled with a delightful aroma of freshly baked goods. The sweet donuts remind me of my Taiwanese hometown, so I always order them. It’s not common to find Asian-infused donuts, so I highly recommend this place. Besides donuts, I also recommend their garlic scallion bun, which is similar to Taiwanese scallion pancakes. They also have high-quality coffee beans that they freshly grind for each order. The ube latte is a must-try.
June 07 · Yung-Yung ChangThe Intern: When I read the reviews I thought that this place was going to blow me away, but in reality it had a smaller selection than most bakeries, and the food was very simple, but trying to be fancy in a way.I’m not a doughnut person and this was a place with a lot of doughnuts, so it wasn’t really my favorite. We got the Strawberry Passion Kouign Amann, Matcha Chocolate Twice Baked Croissant, Sugared Donut, and the Roasted Tomato Sambal Focaccia. The Strawberry Passion was a 7/10, very delicious with a passion fruit filling and a croissant-like texture. The Sugared Donut was very simple, nothing too fancy, just a donut with no filling and sugar on top.The Focaccia was OK, just a little kick of spice. It was a curry bread with tomato sauce.I really liked the decorations and vibe of Rose Ave.
August 12 · Olivia's Honest ReviewI’ve heard so many good things about this bakery and it truly lives up to the hype. A favorite for me was the passion fruit donut and the garlic scallion roll. But everything was so delicious! Be prepared to wait in line but they move quite efficiently and quickly. I got the mango matcha and it had really good authentic matcha flavor (rare sometimes in cafes). 10/10 experience!!!
May 09 · Christine LiangI am so glad I stumbled upon Rose Ave Bakery because their brioche donuts are divine! Since I'm not from the area we had to try the Passion Fruit, Ube, and Pandan Coconut filled donuts. Not only are they visually stunning, but they have the perfect balance of donut to pastry cream. The Pandan Coconut was the fan favorite - flavorful without being too sweet.I hope to one day enjoy more of their Asian-American inspired pastries in the future. If you're in the area, Rose Ave Bakery is a must stop!
May 05 · Erika SchmidtMy top favorite bakery in the city!!!! Amazing donuts and have seasonal pastries too. Seating is limited and long line during the weekend, sometimes in the weekend near their close hour, they run out a lot of things, make sure to visit in the morning. So grateful they open till late in the weekday.
