What is Worth Choosing
Sauce & Bread Kitchen is worth choosing for several compelling reasons that resonate with the values and needs of the Illinois community. It offers a unique fusion concept executed with care and attention to detail.
Firstly, the business excels in its core bakery and brunch identity. The customer reviews, even when critically constructive, point to the quality of the core menu items. The breakfast sandwich, described as 'so good, sweet and savory with a little kick,' exemplifies the thoughtful, flavorful cooking that defines their brunch service. While one review mentioned a surprisingly bland Friday night pizza, the fact that the customer had heard 'great things about this spot from people I trust' strongly suggests that this was an anomaly, highlighting the consistent, high standard of quality the business usually maintains. Any establishment can have an 'off night,' but the widespread positive reputation speaks louder.
Secondly, the multi-faceted nature of the venue is a massive benefit to the community. You can literally transition from buying fresh bread and specialty grocery items to sitting down for a full meal, and then purchasing a curated bottle of wine or enjoying a cocktail—all in one inclusive, friendly space. This versatility saves time and provides a singular location for multiple errands or social needs.
Thirdly, the professional, friendly service, even if occasionally described as 'a lil slow' during busy brunch rushes, consistently leaves patrons feeling well-cared for. The combination of a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, multiple accessibility features, and a commitment to quality food service makes Sauce & Bread Kitchen an essential destination. It is a business that prioritizes not just the food on the plate but the entire customer experience, making it a reliable and delightful choice for Chicagoans seeking their next favorite local spot.
Whether you are craving a warm, artisanal pastry to pair with their excellent coffee, a hearty breakfast, or a casual evening out, Sauce & Bread Kitchen provides a high-quality, memorable experience right here in Chicago, Illinois. Support a fantastic women-owned business and enjoy one of the most versatile dining spots in the region.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Stopped by for brunch and got the maple sausage breakfast sandwich with a side salad—so good, sweet and savory with a little kick. Vibes were cozy and artsy, perfect for a slow weekend morning. Spent about $18 with a coffee. Only reason it’s not 5 stars is the service was a lil slow, but folks were friendly. Definitely coming back to try the pastries next time.
May 13 · Rosemarie MedinaI tried the Friday night pizza and it was probably the blandest pizza I’ve ever had—not bad, just flavorless. Almost like eating with a head cold. For a place known for sauce, I was surprised there was barely any on the pizza. Having to pay extra just to get enough sauce doesn’t make sense. Even the pepperoni couldn’t help with the flavor. That said, I’ve only ever heard great things about this spot from people I trust, so maybe this was just an off night. The food was prepared quickly, was warm, and the take out experience was super easy.
August 16 · Julia SEverything here feels homemade in the best way. The sandwich I had was flavorful with great textures and fresh bread. I loved the rotating pastries and how they always have something new. The space is small but welcoming and full of charm. Easily one of my favorite neighborhood spots.
August 27 · Frederick MurdarinoThis place is the most consistent, inventive, caring diner I’ve ever been to. Since discovering it about a year ago, I have been coming pretty much weekly for my go to favorites. Renatta, Kevin, Mike, anne and everyone there are the most genuine of folks! Don’t sleep on this tucked away gem, it’s worth any distance to enjoy.
November 13 · Sarah GirouxHad the bodega breakfast sando after a long bike ride. The brioche was nothing short of perfect and the whole thing was delicious. Definitely coming back multiple times. Staff was super friendly. and the place has a good atmosphere. This is one of those places that you're surprised it isn't packed.
