The Taiwan Toast is a fundamental must-have. Described as traditional, buttery, and deliciously fluffy, it is a staple that perfectly represents the quality of their bread products. It serves as an excellent base for breakfast or a simple snack. The full loaf is a popular choice for families.
For a savory indulgence, the BBQ Pork Bun (Char Siu Bao) consistently ranks among the most liked items. Its sweet and savory baked filling is an all-time classic. The HK Ham and Egg bun is another fan favorite, offering a hearty, flavorful combination of ham, mayonnaise, and a baked egg omelette, making it a perfect on-the-go meal. Additionally, the Pork Sung Corn Roll, rolled with eggs, corn, ham, mayo, and the unique addition of pork floss (pork sung), is an insanely addicting choice for those who enjoy the distinct salty-sweet profile of Asian pork floss.
On the sweet side, two items frequently stand out: the HK Pineapple Bun (Bo Lo Bao) and the Custard Tarts. The Pineapple Bun is beloved for its crunchy, buttery topping, which gives it its signature texture. The Custard Tarts, particularly the flakier Portuguese Custard Tart, are praised for their rich custard filling and satisfying crust. Finally, for an interesting twist, the Purple Romance bun, a fluffy bread filled with taro paste and topped with fresh taro, is a highly-rated favorite among those who enjoy the unique, earthy sweetness of taro. Whether you are seeking a traditional Chinese pastry, a satisfying savory bun, or a freshly baked loaf of their signature Taiwan Toast, Sheng Kee Bakery #1 offers a wide and affordable selection that continues to delight the San Francisco community.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Came back here for a second time after trying the taro bun the first time but everything tasted so average and bland. Yes, the goodies look really aesthetic and romantic but don't let that fool you, tastes substanceless. In the 2nd photo of the mini cakes, which costed a startling $2.85 for a two inch slice, that's just overkill. We also got a cream bun but cream was too sweet and airy, the bun was slightly too tough. Not coming back again but it's a bakery for anyone in a rush or starving...
March 28 · Zenna KearnsI have been coming here for over 30 years! We get our birthday and wedding cakes from here, as well as our weekly Taiwan toast bread and chicken pies and egg custard tart. The quality is consistent and the prices are amazing. I would highly recommend trying Sheng Kee for any of your bakery needs.
March 23 · Kevin LeuReliable and good quality bakery for the price. Regularly stop by here when I’m craving a treat and buy this for breakfast at work. Staff is always very helpful. Different baked goods at different times of day. They’re popular so they will sell out! Sponge roll cakes are my favorite compared to other places in the city. Also love the fruit custard boats. Recently tried the cake slices and they are also very good, favorite is the macademia nut
January 19 · Haarika SrinathLoved the swiss roll I got from here. It's so yummy. Also, tried the sponge cake here which was less sweet and perfect. Didn't like the service from counter lady who kept asking "anything else?" after every 2 seconds while I was ordering . There was nobody behind me, and I probably took 4-5 seconds to decide my order, so not sure what was the hurry since they weren't closing either.
November 21 · SagarThey have an amazing selection of cakes, pastries, and buns. Their Swiss rolls are the best! I always get the honey lemon and orange ones.
