What is worth choosing
For first-time visitors or seasoned regulars at Sonny Donuts, what is most worth choosing is a combination of our best-loved treats, designed to give you a true taste of a North Texas breakfast. You should prioritize the items that distinguish us as a superior local shop.
Start with the savory side: The LRG Kolache or a Bacon Croissant Sausage is essential. The generous portions and the delightful fusion of flaky croissant and savory sausage are a testament to our quality. Follow this up with one of our signature sweet indulgences. While the classic Glazed Donut is non-negotiable for its sheer perfection, consider one of the unique cake donuts, such as the Blueberry Cake, which offers a robust, fruity flavor and satisfying texture. Don’t forget the Great Coffee, which is consistently highlighted by customers as a reason to return.
In the spirit of being a well-informed local patron, it is also worth discussing the payment experience, as one review brought up a fee for non-cash payment. We believe in consumer awareness, and the topic of a "NO CASH" fee, or credit card surcharge, warrants clarification within the Texas legal framework.
For the benefit of our customers and to maintain our professional commitment to factual information, here is the context on those questions:
Is it legal to charge customers a "NO CASH" fee because they choose to not pay with cash?
In Texas, the legality of a credit card surcharge is complex due to a federal court ruling (Rowell v. Paxton) which currently prevents the enforcement of the state law (Texas Business & Commerce Code Section 604A.0021) that bans surcharges on credit cards. This has created a "gray area" where businesses often implement fees to cover credit card processing costs, typically capped at the rate set by the card network (usually around 3-4% and limited to the merchant's actual cost). However, customers should be aware that the state law's prohibition on surcharges for debit card payments (Section 604A.002) is generally considered to still be in effect. Therefore, while a fee on a credit card is complicated, a surcharge on a debit card is more likely to be in violation of the state’s prohibition.
Is it legal to charge a "NO CASH" fee without telling the customer?
No, charging any surcharge without proper disclosure is a significant issue. Regardless of the convoluted state laws on the existence of the fee, all major credit card networks (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) mandate that a surcharge must be clearly and conspicuously disclosed to the customer at the point of entry and the point of transaction (before the purchase is complete) to give the customer a chance to use a different payment method, such as cash. Failure to disclose the fee beforehand can violate card network agreements and may be deemed an unfair or deceptive trade practice under consumer protection laws, which is a serious matter for any local business.
We encourage patrons to support Sonny Donuts for its quality, value, and friendly service, and to always practice transparency and kindness in all transactions. A simple $0.80 fee should never overshadow the taste of a fresh, hand-made donut or the commitment of a dedicated local owner who, as another reviewer noted, is "super nice" and offers free donut holes. Ultimately, the quality and variety of the food—from the Glazed Donut ($1.39) to the LRG Jalapeño Kolache ($3.59)—is the best reason to choose Sonny Donuts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 12 questions1. Is it legal to charge customers a "NO CASH" fee because they choose to not pay with cash?2. Is it legal to charge a "NO CASH" fee without telling the customer?I see why people say business is cut throat. Or is it the businesses/owners that make it cut throat? Normally, customers would get a discount for using cash so that the fee to use the credit cards is not applied to the owner which would cost the owner $$$. Now, you just make the customers pay for your business fees. Sickening. I originally was going to pay with cash, lady rang up my order, then when I changed my mind and decided to pay with cc, she quickly added another charge that I barely saw but got a glimpse of something like no cash fee and I believe it was like $0.80. I acted like I saw nothing and nothing happened and paid for my order including the no cash fee. I'll gladly eat that no cash fee. $0.80 is a cheap price to pay to find out who people really are...gl in life and shame on u. I hope that fee is worth losing customers for.
July 30 · danny buiThis is a tiny donut shop tucked away in a small strip mall. My hotel was nearby and this was a great stop instead of the dull hotel breakfast food. The owner was super nice, and even gave me a couple donut holes for free. They didn't have the largest variety of donuts, but the ones I had were really tasty. I would definitely stop in again when I am back in town.
March 21 · Frank McBrideWent there recently and their kolaches are so amazing and well priced. Sonny is also the kindest soul and gives extra food sometimes before closing. Love this shop and Sonny.
April 22 · GroundCoffeeBean 123The gal that helped us was the sweetest! The donut holes were great, perfect soft interior with a nice crisp glaze exterior. I had taken my son for Kolaches and he was pleased. Highly rate this donut shop! We couldn’t resist getting the vanilla Minion donut ❤️
August 07 · Nikki G.The only place I've ever seen cinnamon roll donut holes and they were amazing! Plus the sausage patty sandwich hit the spot! Definitely will be back again‼️
