Talavera Cafe Introduce
In the vibrant and diverse neighborhood of Woodside, Queens, Talavera Cafe stands out as a local eatery that offers a little bit of everything. While it has the word "Cafe" in its name, its menu and reputation are deeply rooted in Mexican cuisine, with a bakery component that sometimes draws mixed reactions. For New Yorkers in the area, Talavera Cafe presents itself as a convenient spot for a hearty and flavorful meal, from breakfast burritos to more substantial dinner plates. This article provides a clear and factual overview of Talavera Cafe, using real customer feedback to help locals understand what to expect from their visit, particularly when it comes to the different sides of the menu.
The core strength of Talavera Cafe, according to public reviews, seems to be its savory food menu. One customer, who ordered the Frida sandwich and the breakfast steak burrito, was highly impressed with the experience. They noted that the meal was "so worth it" not only for the excellent flavors but also for the "very on point" service. This kind of positive feedback suggests that when Talavera Cafe is in its element—serving its main dishes and hot meals—it can deliver a truly satisfying experience. The customer also made a very telling observation, suggesting that patrons should focus on the restaurant's meal items rather than its pastries, stating, "Most people in these comments only got pastries which in my opinion I wouldn't order at restaurants but to each is own." This insight is crucial for new customers navigating the menu.
However, the other side of Talavera Cafe's reputation, specifically regarding its baked goods, has not been as positive. One review highlights a major issue with a cake order. A customer who specifically asked for a tres leches cake, even showing a picture of what they wanted, was given a "nasty non-tasting peach cake instead." This experience was highly disappointing and led to the customer stating they would "never again" go to the cafe. This kind of significant inconsistency in a bakery item is a serious concern. While the cafe's savory menu may be strong, this feedback suggests that the bakery side of the business may be less reliable and that it is a risk to order specific pastries, especially for a special occasion.
This divergence in reviews is a key factor for any New Yorker considering a visit. On one hand, you have a customer who had a fantastic and flavorful meal with great service. On the other, you have a customer who was let down by a specific bakery order, receiving an item that was completely different from what they requested and of poor quality. This overview is intended to provide a balanced perspective, allowing locals to make an informed choice. It appears that Talavera Cafe is a place to go for a delicious and well-prepared hot meal but may not be the most reliable option for a pastry or custom cake order.
Location and Accessibility
Talavera Cafe is located at 50-17 Skillman Ave, Woodside, NY 11377, USA. This address places it in a busy commercial and residential part of Woodside, a neighborhood in Queens known for its diverse culinary scene. It is also a walkable distance from major subway lines, including the 7 train, which runs along Roosevelt Avenue, and the E, M, and R trains at the Woodside-61st Street station. The proximity to these transportation hubs makes it easily accessible for residents of Woodside and surrounding neighborhoods, as well as for those traveling from other parts of the city.
For those who drive, street parking can be challenging in this area, as is the case with most of New York City. However, the cafe's presence on a main thoroughfare like Skillman Avenue means it is a visible and well-known spot in the community. The cafe’s ground-floor location and open storefront make it a welcoming and easy-to-find destination for all pedestrians.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
Talavera Cafe is a suitable option for locals in the New York region, specifically in the Woodside neighborhood, who are looking for a satisfying and flavorful Mexican meal. The feedback about the savory dishes, such as the breakfast burritos and sandwiches, is overwhelmingly positive, suggesting that this is where the cafe excels. For a New Yorker looking for a great meal at a reasonable value with good service, Talavera Cafe appears to be a strong contender. Its location on Skillman Avenue and proximity to public transportation also make it a convenient spot for residents to grab a meal.
However, based on the provided reviews, locals should approach the bakery and pastry side of the business with caution. The significant negative feedback about a cake order indicates that there may be inconsistencies in the quality and accuracy of these items. Therefore, it might be best for customers to treat Talavera Cafe as a restaurant that happens to sell some baked goods, rather than a full-fledged bakery. For those seeking a delicious and well-prepared Mexican meal with good service, this cafe is a recommended spot. But for those with a specific cake or pastry craving, it might be wise to consider a different establishment that specializes in those items. This article serves to provide an honest, factual guide for locals navigating the culinary landscape of Woodside.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Ordered the Frida sandwich and the breakfast steak burrito, my total was $40 with 1 tropicalJuice and 1 ice coffee, this entire meal was so worth it not only because of the flavors each items brought out but the service as well was very on point. I would 10/10 get again. Most people in these comments only got pastries which in my opinion I wouldn't order at restaurants but to each is own.
April 09 · Joanny MendozaI asked for a tres Leche cake and even shown the lady what I wanted and she gave me this nasty non-tasting peach cake instead. Never again I’m going here very disappointed.
September 15 · Vanessa MercadoHorrible pastries they taste hard and old.Coffee is bitter, tastes awful, and its expensive for poor quality food. The place looks dirty inside tasteless. People are sitting hanging out in the front of the store the hold day on one coffee. The cook wearing dirty clothes makes me wonder if they even wash their hands. Don't waste your time going there you'll be very disappointed and be wasting your money.
November 23 · Bobbie MolinaWe have given this restaurant multiple chances, hoping for the best today as they are under new management. The food is plain and not very flavorful. Steak breakfast burrito is good sized but no flavor, no salt or pepper on the meat, eggs, or potatoes. Pancakes were dry and chewy because they dont include syrup, just pour a little on the top. Ham and cheese croissant contained almost no ham or cheese, dry, and was flat like a dinner plate. Sausage, Egg and Cheese i ordered with mayonnaise and hot sauce, but recieved day old slice of tomato, with no mayo or hot sauce, and the eggs were dry with no seasoning. I try to support local businesses but $40 for a bad breakfast is not worth it to me. I hope the kitchen learns how to season their food and cook with passion and flavor in the future. Best of luck to this business
April 01 · James RichI lived in the neighborhood for 3 years and this was my go-to spot for breakfast or lunch. I specially liked their Coffee ring, which I’ll buy to share with family with a cup of coffee or a cup of milk (the way I like it). The other staple for me was their chicken burrito because it was quick and tasty. The staff were always attentive and friendly, and also spoke Spanish, which I appreciated. I never had to wait too long for my food or to be attended.
