★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1My daughter and I came today. I believe the chef/owner took our order, not the Most friendly service. Usually when a customer says thank you, some type of reply is nice. Just silence is off putting. She loved her avocado toast, and I enjoyed my Sandwich with eggs chorizo con papas. She had s’mores cookie, which was delicious. We ordered two Iced chai, but it tasted like milk with a hint of chai at best. I don’t think I would order that again. I did buy a sourdough loaf for Home to have with dinner and it was great! Everyone can have an off day or a bad day so I will give the place another chance and hopefully the customer service will be up to par. There used to be a great bakery in its place before they opened, and I truly hope they are successful!
July 30 · Kimberly FloresI recently took The owners sourdough class and it was wonderful! Chef George covers sourdough basics and all his tips and tricks to making your sourdough journey successful. You will leave with a complete sourdough kit, sourdough starter, and a loaf of bread to bake at home. After several failed attempts to make my own starter, I now feel confident to keep this starter alive! I baked my first loaf and it turned out great! If you are on a sourdough journey then I would highly recommend taking this class, you won’t be disappointed!
June 23 · Nicole bauerThank you, Ancestral Oven! Not only do they have delicious sourdough bread, they also offer amazing desserts. I reached out to George, the owner and met with him to design a custom cake. I shared a wedding mood board and with that inspiration he created pure magic. Not only did the cake look amazing, it was incredibly delicious.
June 23 · Joan ZFood: I ordered the Jalapeño Cheddar First Rise sandwich. This sandwich was very simple in the presentation. However, it had the perfect notes of a breakfast sandwich. The sourdough brought was lightly crispy but not oversaturated with oil like other breakfast sandwiches. The egg and bacon on it are hearty enough, but the real star ingredient on the sandwich is the Chipotle mayo. I additionally ordered a toasted coconut Iced Latte. All of the coffee syrups are handmade and in-house by the owner, which is greatly appreciated. There is nothing artificial here. As for the toasted coconut flavor, the toasted part comes through more as natural coconut is actually very light in flavor when combined with notes as strong as coffee. I'd try their lavender or cinnamon dolce syrup flavors next. I also ordered their Mocha Bread Pudding, and it was easily the best item I ordered. I was fortunate enough to receive it freshly made, warmed, and cut. This pastry isn't something they always have available as they are always trying out different items, but this one, I devoured so quickly that I forgot to snap a picture. The serving size is large enough to share with another person. It was so warm and soft that the warm chocolate chips smeared the plate with every bite. If it's there, just get it.Service: The owner George was very knowledgeable and welcoming as he answered my many inquiries about the items on the menu. He was very patient and extremely detailed. It was evident that he is, in fact, involved in the creation of the items instead of taking a back seat in the kitchen. On the way out, he offered me a complimentary Mexican Chocolate Chip cookie 🍪 that resembles the Abuelita hot chocolate mix. Definitely recommend lightly warming it up.Atmosphere: While there are frills or thrills here, the interior and design are very simple and casual in nature. With the number of cafés popping up that are overcrowded and over-decorated with the same themes, this place is a breath of fresh air. This spot is definitely a hidden gem, and I secretly hope it stays that way.
June 13 · Victoria HerrThe sourdough is amazing! Definitely some of the best I’ve had. We have struggled to find good sourdough in the area, so we drove almost 30 min to try out this new place. Love supporting fellow small biz owners. Chef George was friendly and helpful. It was well worth the trip out to Oak Lawn, in fact we are on our way there right now for the second time this week (our first visit was several days ago lol). I forgot to take a pic of the full loaf, we ate it too quickly. Will update w/a full loaf photo :)
