The Bakery Introduce
For residents of the Hudson Valley and New Paltz, New York, finding a reliable and welcoming bakery is a key part of the local experience. The Bakery, situated at 13a N Front Street, has long been a part of this community, serving as a hub for morning coffee, freshly baked goods, and satisfying sandwiches. This establishment has a history of being a beloved local spot, known for its good food and inviting atmosphere. While it has recently gone through some changes that have been noted by patrons, it remains a place with significant potential and a loyal following. The Bakery offers a variety of products that cater to different tastes, from delicious bagels and croissants to big, tasty sandwiches. This article will provide a comprehensive overview of The Bakery, covering its central location, the range of services it offers, and the features that highlight its role in the New Paltz community. We will explore the positive aspects that have kept customers coming back, while also acknowledging the areas where the business has room to grow and improve, based on factual public feedback.
The Bakery holds a special place in the hearts of many New Paltz locals. For years, it has been a go-to spot for a quick bite before work or a casual weekend treat. The atmosphere is consistently described as a major positive, providing a cozy and welcoming environment that makes patrons feel at home. The quality of the food has also been a significant draw, with customers praising the taste and size of the bagels and the deliciousness of their lattes. Beyond the classic bakery fare, The Bakery has also gained a reputation for its hearty and satisfying sandwiches, which are noted for being a "most American sandwich place" in the Hudson Valley. This diversity of offerings ensures that there is something for everyone, whether they are in the mood for a sweet pastry or a filling meal. The staff is often described as friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive experience. However, recent reviews have noted some inconsistencies in product quality, with baked goods occasionally being dry or burnt, and a perceived lack of attention to detail. This has led some long-time customers to express concern and hope for a return to the consistent quality they remember. Despite these recent challenges, the bakery’s core appeal—a great atmosphere and tasty food—remains, and its potential for excellence is a constant theme in customer feedback.
The Bakery is located at 13a N Front St, New Paltz, NY 12561. This address places it in a prime, central spot within the village of New Paltz. North Front Street is a key thoroughfare, and the location is easily accessible for both foot traffic and those driving through. New Paltz is a vibrant college town and a popular destination in the Hudson Valley, making this a high-visibility location. Its central position ensures that it is a convenient stop for students, locals, and tourists alike. The surrounding area is bustling with other shops and restaurants, making The Bakery a natural part of any outing in town.
However, a notable accessibility issue has been raised by a customer, which is an important point for potential visitors. While the building itself is wheelchair accessible on the ground floor, there is no elevator to access the upstairs seating area, particularly during colder months when outdoor seating is not an option. This is a crucial piece of information for individuals with mobility challenges. Despite this limitation, the ground floor is accessible, allowing everyone to at least enter and enjoy the products. The central location remains a significant advantage, ensuring that anyone in the New Paltz area can easily find and visit the bakery.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1EDIT: from 4 to 2 stars-Unfortunately, this place has really gone down hill. The bagels are always dry, and the challah has consistently been burnt every time. I tried door dashing from them for the first time and it came in a small brown bag with the baked goods sticking out of it- not stapled shut or anything. It didn’t even surprise me because there has been a lack of attention at The Bakery over the past few months, and it’s only gotten worse. The atmosphere is nice, but it doesn’t really outweigh the bad parts- I won’t be as frequent unfortunately, but I will definitely continue to give it a shot and support and update the review if it gets better.OLD REVIEW:A really great place to come in the morning before work. I’ve only had the baked goods, but they’re all great. The bagels, for me, are the perfect size and they taste really good! The only reason it’s lost one star is because it’s just a little expensive. $8 for a bagel with cream cheese and a latte (both delicious), and the croissants are like $3.50 each. *however* all the other cafes in NP are the same, so maybe there’s an external factor I’m just unaware of that makes it pricey. My main issue is that there is never any challah anymore… I would come every weekend to a boat load of loaves and pick the best and buy it and share with friends- now even in the mornings, there is MAYBE one loaf. I believe they make it on Fridays, but they used to on Saturday too if I’m not mistaken- regardless, I hardly see it anymore. As a Jewish man, I’m really hoping the new ownership cares for the Jewish community in the way the last owners did. Maybe I just happen to always come right before they put new loaves out, but just figured I’d note this. Final note- it’s not wheelchair accessible. Yes, you can get in the building on a wheelchair, but during cold months there is no where to sit downstairs- and no elevator. Similar with some other reviews I’ve seen, the bakery is amazing and has potential to be perfect, just with a few minor improvements :)
February 22 · Alexander MoonBig tasty sandwiches made with a variety of bread. Most American sandwich place we found in 3 days in the Hudson Valley. Delicious and filling. Friendly, helpful staff.
July 25 · Niall MarshallBest service I ever had. The staff are kind, caring, and excellent customer service workers. The bagels, sandwiches, cakes, and pastries are all delicious. Can’t go wrong with anything here!
January 25 · Kristen AnnabiThis is one of my favorite places, ever. It's tucked away like a hidden gem for locals with outdoor seating and a loft over the bakery area with indoor seating and a play area for kids. It's one of the only places I can go to eat out with my child and actually relax!!!!! There's a wide variety of foods, not just baked goods but breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well as hot and cold coffees, teas, espresso drinks, and brand drinks for the picky ones (like bottled juice, seltzer, etc.) I appreciate they celebrate and bake for all different holidays. When I've ordered cakes the bakers have done amazing work. I FREAKING LOVE THIS PLACE
September 05 · Roberta FlahertyThe food is good, but the staff makes it so unwelcoming to enter and order. They’re extremely slow always making me late to wherever I need to go. The point of a take out bakery is the quick and effective process of getting food, not standing there for 15 minutes before someone even notices you. The workers lack the ability to multi task or greet customers. Horrible the way I was treated and disregarded, this place needs to focus more on kindness and an appropriate work ethic NOT decorating, walking around ignoring customers and talking with their coworkers/friends.
