★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Was very excited to try the infamous Tulie and was thoroughly disappointed. The hot chocolate was served lukewarm and wasn’t anything special (I’d say it was on-par with Swiss Miss). I had higher hopes after seeing the hot cocoa specifically recommended by The Female Foodie.Although the molasses spice cake had a nice subtle hint of spice, I prefer a spice cake to pack more of a punch. The cake also seemed more oily than maybe is normal? It left a film on my lips and fingers. The service was fantastic and the place is darling, but not sure if spend money here again.
December 14 · MacKenzie BowmanHave had Tulie cakes on a couple of occasions, most recently I ordered an olive oil cake for my wife’s birthday, and it has never disappointed. A 9in cake fed almost 20 people with leftovers. The cake is moist, with amazing flavor and delicious frosting. Definitely a bit pricey, but well worth it for a special occasion. Was easy to call the cake in and pay over the phone.
September 02 · Ryne WilliamsI was hesitant to try Tulie’s Bakery because several reviews mentioned poor customer service. But it was early on a quiet Sunday morning around 8:30 a.m., and I figured we might avoid the kind of experience others had described. Unfortunately, I was wrong. There were only a few customers inside and outside, and plenty of staff, but we still experienced a long wait for just a black tea and a cheese Danish. While I stood waiting, I saw them begin prepping other orders before finishing mine. The staff didn’t seem busy, just distracted and slow.I asked for honey in my tea, when I asked if I could see how much was going in, they acted like it was an inconvenience. They also started steeping my tea and assumed it was appropriate to steep it for five minutes without asking me, that would make my tea, bitter as black tea standard steep time is three minutes, and it depends on the tea. This is something you should ask your customer or at least hand it to them and let them decide how long they want to steep the teabag.I also asked for my Danish to be warmed. Instead of doing it properly, they microwaved it, then shoved it into a paper bag on its side, with the cheese completely flipped upside down in the bag. When I said it wasn’t okay to serve it like that, the employee told me, “That’s what happens when you ask us to heat your pastry.” I had to explain that the issue wasn’t the heating, it was serving it sideways in a bag instead of upright or in a box. I should’ve taken a picture of what they served me and posted it, it was ridiculous. This place doesn’t even bake their pastries on-site, they’re delivered from another location downtown, so don’t expect anything fresh from the oven. And while the Danish itself tasted good, it didn’t make up for the service. The other reviews warning about bad customer service are completely accurate. I won’t support a business, no matter how good the product is, if they treat paying customers with laziness or disrespect. However, that being said, the pastry was good, not amazing or anything special.
September 14 · Heather CA $15 sandwich took 20 minutes, has 2 slices of cafeteria lunch meat, a chunk of tomato, a sprinkle of greens, and more mayo than all of them combined. (The photo is honest, nothing removed.)
May 22 · Brandon ChristensenTulie Bakery is superb. My wife and I were driving around salt lake looking for the best places to find great laminated dough, espresso, etc. Tulie Bakery came highly recommended and I can see why. It was a very clean establishment, the workers were very friendly, and the food/drink items were all made to perfection. If you are looking for a place where you can sit and enjoy pasties that are out of this world. This is your place!
