Voodoo Doughnut Introduce
Introduction / Overview: The "Keep Portland Weird" Spirit in a Pink Box
When discussing iconic Oregon food experiences, especially in Portland, few places spark as much immediate recognition and delight as Voodoo Doughnut. More than just a place to grab a morning pastry, this establishment has cemented its reputation as a cultural touchstone, perfectly embodying the city's well-known "Keep Portland Weird" ethos. Founded in 2003, Voodoo Doughnut was created by old friends Kenneth "Cat Daddy" Pogson and Richard "Tres" Shannon, two entertainment-oriented Portlanders who wanted to fuse exceptional hospitality with their bold, do-it-yourself approach to show business. They started with a vision to offer an alternative to standard doughnut fare, injecting a countercultural spirit into their creations.
The Voodoo Doughnut name has become synonymous with creative, eccentric, and colorful treats that turn a simple confection into an unforgettable experience. From the brightly colored walls and funky decor to the vast and imaginative selection of doughnuts, a visit here is like stepping into a candy-filled carnival, as many customers have noted. The shop's unique style has garnered national media attention and made it an essential stop for both locals and visitors to the Oregon region. They have even been featured on popular shows like Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations and Portlandia, further solidifying their place in pop culture. Their distinct pink boxes, a staple since the early days, are a widely recognized symbol of a uniquely Portland indulgence.
In a significant nod to its local impact, the Portland Cream doughnut, a raised yeast shell filled with Bavarian cream and topped with chocolate and two frosting eyeballs, was designated Portland's "Official City Doughnut" by a City Council resolution in 2008. The shop's commitment to novelty and community engagement, including hosting legal weddings and performing commitment ceremonies, speaks to its playful and unconventional nature. They consistently introduce new creations and offer specialty doughnuts that sometimes connect to donations for nonprofit organizations, reinforcing their local commitment.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We stopped at the Davis Street Voodoo Doughnut in Portland and loved it. The donuts were not just good—they were fun, colorful, and presented in a way that makes you smile before you even take a bite. Each one felt like a little piece of Portland creativity. Tasty, unique, and worth the stop!
September 15 · David StejkowskiVoodoo Doughnut is a Portland staple, known for its eccentric donuts and quirky atmosphere. As soon as you step inside, you’re greeted by the brightly colored walls and funky decor. It’s almost like stepping into a candy-filled carnival. The selection of donuts is vast, with everything from the famous Bacon Maple Bar to the voodoo doll-shaped donuts filled with raspberry jelly. I tried the Voodoo Doll donut, and it did not disappoint. The raspberry filling was tart and sweet, and the donut itself was soft and fluffy. The bacon on the Maple Bar added an unexpected savory touch that worked surprisingly well with the sweetness of the donut. While the shop can get crowded, especially on weekends, it’s definitely worth the wait. If you’re in Portland, you have to experience Voodoo Doughnut at least once. It’s not just about the donuts; it’s about the whole quirky, fun experience that comes with it.
August 18 · Forgery dgoddfhAll were made well, great appearance of each donut. The strawberry one was amazing - if you like that kind which I did! Not all combinations were to my personal liking but they sounded like unique combinations. The counter person was knowledgeable about each donut, was patient with all our questions & was so welcoming.Excellent experience.
July 01 · Cindy GardnerWe stopped here because we saw it on The Travel Show and The Cooking Show a long time ago. When we made plans to visit Oregon, we knew that we had to see it for ourselves. Voodoo Donuts is awesome! I love the atmosphere and vibe! Fun and playful. Nelson took great care of us and out order. She was very friendly, welcoming and helpful! She deserves more than 5 stars!!!We got the Voodoo Doll and the Pothole. I was disappointed with how my voodoo doll looked. The pretzel stick was stabbed in the kidneys. The donut didn't look like the one in the display case. IMO, the donut looked like a deformed male body part. The donut is very delicious and love the bloody filling.
May 09 · Tracy BerthelsonVoodoo is a yummy treat, but not the best donuts ever. I liked the toxic blue one with berry jam filling. Too many great looking options. Thankfully, there was no queue, but the barricades
