Yeh's Bakery Introduce
For anyone in New York, especially those of us who appreciate the rich tapestry of flavors found in Queens, a truly exceptional bakery is a treasure. Yeh's Bakery, located on Main Street in Flushing, has firmly established itself as an institution in the neighborhood, a place that evokes nostalgia for long-time residents and delights newcomers with its unique offerings. This isn't just another bakery; it's a destination revered for its signature light and fluffy cakes, particularly its "heavenly" sponge cake and highly acclaimed Boston Cream cake. While it might not have the expansive selection of some larger Asian bakeries, Yeh's focuses on quality over quantity, delivering standout items that keep customers, even those from Brooklyn, coming back for more. If you're looking for authentic Chinese baked goods with a reputation for excellence, particularly in the realm of sponge cakes and certain savory pastries, Yeh's Bakery is a place that warrants your attention.

The 7 subway line terminates at the Main Street-Flushing station, which is a manageable walk or a short bus ride from the bakery. This prime location ensures that Yeh's Bakery is a convenient and viable option for anyone in the New York region looking to experience its renowned baked goods.
Yeh's Bakery offers a focused yet highly acclaimed selection of baked goods, with a strong emphasis on cakes and a few standout savory pastries.
- Signature Sponge Cakes: Their round sponge cakes are particularly famous, with customers raving about their light, fluffy, and "heavenly" texture. Flavors include classic vanilla, green tea, strawberry, and a highly praised Boston Cream cake. The "not too sweet" characteristic is a recurring compliment.
- Boston Cream Cake: This specific cake is highlighted as a must-try, often leading customers to purchase entire cakes after trying a single slice due to its deliciousness and light cream filling.
- Curry Beef Pastries (Ga Li Jao): These savory pastries are a strong highlight, consistently receiving 5-star ratings from customers for their excellent flavor and flaky dough. They are considered a unique and highly addictive item.
- Chicken Pastries: Another savory option, though feedback suggests these can be inconsistent, with some finding too many onions and not enough chicken.
- Round Sponge Cake with Lemon/Citrus Filling: This is another well-regarded cake option, praised for its very good taste.
- Other Cake Varieties: Besides their signature sponge cakes, they offer other cakes like pineapple cakes (with luscious pineapple bits), strawberry taro, chestnut-filled cakes, chocolate cakes, and even mooncakes during the appropriate season.
- Cookies: Customers also mention enjoying their cookies, such as almond and butterfly cookies.
- Walk-in Purchases: The bakery primarily operates as a walk-in establishment where customers select items directly from the counter.
Yeh's Bakery is distinguished by several key features and highlights that have contributed to its long-standing reputation and loyal customer base.
- Unmatched Sponge Cake Quality: The consistently praised lightness, moistness, and "heavenly" quality of their sponge cakes, particularly the Boston Cream and those with fruit fillings, are a major draw. They are often described as "not too sweet," appealing to a broader palate.
- Iconic Curry Beef Pastries: The curry beef pastries are a highly addictive and unique item, considered a must-try by many, showcasing a different side of their baking expertise.
- Long-Standing Neighborhood Institution: Yeh's Bakery has been a fixture in Flushing for decades, with customers recounting childhood memories of their cakes, signifying deep community roots and consistent quality over time.
- Cash-Only Policy: While noted as a "gripe" by some, this policy also implies a high volume of business and popularity that allows them to operate this way. It's a testament to their established customer base.
- Friendly Service: Despite being busy, the service is generally described as friendly and patient.
- Affordable Indulgence: While some items may be slightly pricier than other Chinese bakeries, the overall consensus is that the quality justifies the cost, with competitive pricing for their specialty items.
- Freshness and Quality Ingredients: Reviews indicate that their cream fillings remain delicious even after a few days in the refrigerator, speaking to the quality of ingredients and preparation. They prioritize sourcing locally and incorporating organic and natural elements.
- No Seating: The bakery is a "grab and go" spot, focusing purely on takeout, which contributes to efficiency.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Tried this bakery for the first time and bought 3 items. They didn’t have a large selection of Chinese pastries like some of the other bakeries (no roast pork buns, pineapple buns etc). The curry beef pastries were the best! 5 stars for those. The chicken pastries were ok, too much onions and the not much chicken (3 stars). The round sponge cake with lemon was also very good (4 stars). Service was friendly.
June 10 · Dolly GiordanoCash only - this is my only gripeThis may be the best sponge cake I've ever head. It's heavenly. The single slice of the Boston Cream I got was so good, I quickly went in and grabbed another entire cake lol.The other cakes were also good, however the Boston Cream definitely is by far and away the best one. I also liked the one with the citrus filling as well (pic below).Overall, very solid place. Just honestly hate that they're cash only. But honestly, they must be so busy and popular that they can do it. Will be back!
January 04 · Saddmun AhsanWe try this cake at a family party. It was amazing.!! So we decided to drive from Long Island for my sister's 50th birthday to get her one for her birthday. It absolutely did not disappoint. The cake looks beautiful with all fresh fruit and tasted even better lite fluffy. Just delicious..We will definitely be back again
June 29 · DesirreeWe live in Brooklyn! Every time we come by Queens, we have to stop by this bakery! The curry bun is the best! We bought two cakes, one for visited to family and the other we took home. Sitting in the refrigerator for two to three days, the cream in side the cake was still delicious! Yummy!
January 24 · Tommy WhoHave not been there for a while over the years because of very rude services from a few female behind the counter. Likewise, the original baker is not often there anymore and noted the quality has gone down. My most recent visit for a cake and curry filled pastry was very disappointing. The cake had much less cream { very thin layer } and the dozen plus curry pastry that was rushed to be packed for me were already spoiled. Unknownly, I had served a few to elderly over 90+ years of age before realizing a bad smell from the entire box. After taking a small bite for taste test, I stop serving them and quickly contacted the bakery for safety reasons. Not believing me, I was told to bring them back when I am 45 minutes away and decided to drive back because of large quantities bought. When I got there, the original 2 female who packed my pastries were not there and I had to explained to two other different cashiers before I was given a refund. One offer exchange pastry but, to the other not to give exchange pastry because they were all from the same batch. If they knew it was already spoiled, they should have never sold it to anyone and just discard the entire batch. In addition to rude services, now their knowingly serving spoiled pastries. Will definitely try somewhere else from now on.
