Angel Azul Bakery Cafe Introduce
For those of us living in New Jersey, especially in the vibrant and diverse community of Jersey City Heights, there’s a distinct pleasure in discovering local establishments that offer a true taste of international flavors. These are the places that become integral to our daily routines, providing not just food, but a connection to rich culinary traditions. In Jersey City, one such cherished spot is Angel Azul Bakery Cafe, a true gem that has been serving the community with heavenly Ecuadorian and Colombian flavors since 1998. When you're craving authentic Latin American pastries, a hearty breakfast, or simply a delicious cup of coffee, this family-owned bakery is a staple you need to know about.
Angel Azul Bakery Cafe, established by Zoila and Luis Gallo, has truly embodied the American dream, growing from a humble beginning at 434 Central Avenue to its current bustling location at 460 Central Avenue. This longevity is a testament to their dedication to quality and their deep roots in the community. Their commitment to freshness is evident in their in-house bakery, which produces handmade bread and a wide array of Colombian and Ecuadorian pastries that are consistently a hit with customers. Imagine starting your day with a traditional Colombian breakfast, or grabbing a warm, authentic pastry on your way to work – that’s the experience Angel Azul offers.
The bakery and cafe open as early as 5:30 AM, Monday through Saturday, specifically to cater to locals heading out for their day, often catching the 119 transit bus into NYC. This understanding of their clientele's needs, along with their diverse menu spanning traditional breakfast dishes, sandwiches, and a fantastic selection of hot and cold beverages, makes Angel Azul a convenient and appealing option for many. While one review did highlight some issues with coffee service, the overarching sentiment from many long-time patrons often speaks to the deliciousness of their food and the family's deep connection to the community, making it a beloved local anchor that has celebrated over two decades in business.
Angel Azul Bakery Cafe is prominently located at 460 Central Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07307, USA. This address places it squarely in the bustling Jersey City Heights neighborhood, a vibrant and densely populated area. Central Avenue itself is a major commercial street, acting as a vital artery for local commerce and pedestrian traffic. Its location ensures high visibility and easy accessibility for residents and commuters alike. For those living in the Heights or passing through on their daily routines, Angel Azul is a convenient and recognizable landmark.
Accessibility for those traveling by car typically involves street parking, which, like many urban commercial areas in New Jersey, can sometimes be a challenge but is generally available with patience. Given its location on a main avenue, there might be metered parking or nearby public parking options to explore. For individuals relying on public transportation, Central Avenue is well-served by local NJ Transit bus routes, including those that connect to major transportation hubs and into New York City. This makes Angel Azul a popular stop for commuters grabbing breakfast and coffee on their way to work, as highlighted in one of the insights, where customers often come in before taking the 119 transit bus into NYC. The cafe's strategic and well-connected location significantly contributes to its role as a neighborhood hub.

July 15 · VickiI go here in the morning to get breakfast all the time. I ordered an iced coffee they put a splash of coffee filled with an entire cup of milk. I ask for less milk they say it will cost me more to have a full cup of coffee when what I ordered was literally an iced coffee. Then they gave me half assed iced coffee they didn’t remake it they dumped part of the cup out, added whatever coffee was left in the pot then gave it to me. I said this isn’t a full cup they I have to pay extra for a full cup. Terrible service I go here almost every other day and will not be returning. Management is rude and penny pinches
January 07 · Rose MCasual spot for Colombian breakfast. Their waffle breakfast is great. It was confusing though to order because their menu said "eggs with ham or bacon or chorizo", but when we ordered it turns out it was just eggs, and any meats were additional charge. Also the photo of the eggs had vegetables in it but the actual eggs did not. Overall pretty confusing, but the food was good. The waffle is by far their most expensive breakfast item. Also not everyone speaks English.
September 20 · Salima NadiraAngel’s is definitely my go to breakfast & cafe con leche spot. Their prices are super super affordable & the food is delicious!! My go to is either the #5 or the #7! My only issue is the table space in there, I wish it wasn’t so tight because this place gets super packed, and i get a little claustrophobic when i’m eating there.
June 22 · Maria (Velo)Everything in this bakery is good! Hands down, the only spot to have breakfast in the Heights. If you can deal with the slow service, it is worth the wait and you will not be disappointed. The avena (oatmeal), coffee and meals are amazing!
