Bagel Joint Introduce

In a city saturated with bagel shops, standing out requires more than just a good bagel; it demands creativity, passion, and a fearless approach to tradition. Bagel Joint, nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, has risen to this challenge, quickly becoming a local sensation for its innovative take on the New York classic. This is not your grandfather's bagel shop. It's a place where the familiar comfort of a bagel meets the exciting world of global cuisine, resulting in a menu that is both surprising and deeply satisfying. Patrons are not just stopping by for a simple breakfast; they are embarking on a culinary adventure, guided by a team of "culinary geniuses" who are constantly pushing the boundaries of what a bagel can be. This unique philosophy has created a dedicated following of locals who appreciate the trendy vibe and the unforgettable flavors that Bagel Joint serves up. In this detailed article, we'll explore everything that makes this spot a suitable choice for New Yorkers, from its prime location and distinctive menu to the friendly, expert staff that keeps customers "coming back again soon."
The true magic of Bagel Joint lies in its imaginative approach to bagels and spreads. One of the most common themes in customer reviews is the praise for their "amazing unique flavored bagels." This dedication to innovation sets them apart from the competition, and customers are thrilled to "ask the staff 'hey what do you recommend this week'" and find that they "literally never miss!!" This kind of trust in the staff’s expertise is a testament to the quality and creativity of their products. From their "cool bagel options" to "the specialty sandwiches," they are truly "doing amazing things there." The flavors are so distinct and fresh that one reviewer noted, "That Schmear smell on the sandwich will definitely linger on your fingers all day," which, for a true food lover, is a mark of a great meal. While the prices are acknowledged as being "a little pricier than normal bakeries," the consensus is that the unique experience and high quality of the food justify the cost. The shop also has a "nice trendy vibe," which makes it a fun place to visit. Bagel Joint’s founders, Lanty Hou and Will Sacks, have stated their mission is to “celebrate global cuisine through the format of Jewish baked goods,” and they are known for their creativity with flavors like miso, gochujang, and even a garlic naan bialy. This kind of experimentation and commitment to flavor is what has endeared them to the Greenpoint community and beyond.
Bagel Joint is located at 230 Calyer St, Brooklyn, NY 11222. This address places it squarely in the heart of Greenpoint, a neighborhood known for its vibrant community, artistic energy, and delicious food scene. The bakery’s presence on a local street rather than a major avenue adds to its intimate, neighborhood feel. For locals, this makes it a convenient and regular stop. Accessibility is a key factor for New Yorkers, and while the subway might require a bit of a walk, Greenpoint is well-served by public transportation, including buses and the G train. This ensures that even those from other parts of Brooklyn or Manhattan can make the trip to try these unique bagels. The location is also close to popular spots like McGolrick Park, where the business originally gained its footing at a local farmers market. This history gives the shop a deep connection to its community. The founders have expressed that Greenpoint “feels like the community” and “home,” and this sentiment is reflected in the way they run their business and interact with their customers.
Bagel Joint offers a range of services that go beyond a standard bagel shop, focusing on a creative and high-quality menu. While the menu is subject to change based on their seasonal and experimental offerings, these are some of the key services they provide.
- Unique Flavored Bagels: Their main draw is the variety of innovative bagel flavors that blend traditional recipes with global ingredients. They are always fresh and are noted to be baked within the last 90 minutes.
- Specialty Sandwiches: Bagel Joint is known for its creative specialty sandwiches, such as "The St. Marks" with a miso bagel, wasabi cream cheese, and smoked tuna, or "The McGolrick" on a fig & olive bagel.
- Specialty Schmears (Cream Cheeses): The variety and quality of their cream cheeses are a highlight, with specialty schmears that are as inventive as their bagels.
- Catering: For events, gatherings, or office meetings, they offer catering services. The minimum order for days they are open is $150, and they can even cater on days they are closed for a larger fee, with a minimum of $500.
- Bialys and Other Baked Goods: In addition to bagels, they also offer bialys, another traditional Jewish baked good, which they also infuse with their creative, multicultural flavors.
Several key features and highlights distinguish Bagel Joint and make it a truly special place in the New York bagel scene.
- Culinary Innovation: The bakery’s commitment to challenging the status quo with unique and experimental bagel and schmear flavors is its most significant highlight. This approach appeals to a new generation of foodies.
- High-Quality Ingredients: The use of fresh ingredients and a focus on traditional baking methods, while incorporating new flavors, ensures a delicious and high-quality product.
- Exceptional Staff Recommendations: The staff’s expertise and friendly demeanor in recommending items are highly praised by customers, creating a trusting and personalized experience.
- Trendy and Welcoming Atmosphere: The shop’s "trendy vibe" and clean, modern aesthetic make it a cool place to hang out and enjoy a meal, which is a key part of its appeal.
- Community-Centric Approach: Having started at a local farmers market and now with a brick-and-mortar shop, Bagel Joint is deeply rooted in the Greenpoint community, which adds to its charm and local appeal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1- This place has amazing unique flavored bagels!Definitely a little pricier than normal. Bakeries but it has that nice trendy vibe. That Schmear smell on the sandwich will definitely linger on your fingers all day.No complaints here. July 22 · Jan Ezer Dominguez
- The folks at Bagel Joint are absolute culinary geniuses! From the cool bagel options to the specialty sandwiches—they are truly doing amazing things there. I don’t even have to think when I go there. I just ask the staff “hey what do you recommend this week” and they literally never miss!! I’m there every weekend and find myself wanting more. Highly recommend this to everyone in NYC. July 20 · Saeed Khan
- I've heard really good things about the restuarant so I've been excited to try it. I'm happy to say it exceeded my expectations.I'm celiac with quite a few allergies, so I'm always on the hunt for places with gluten free options. Usually there is only 1 or two options, if there are any, at most places and rarely are do the options taste like more than an afterthought. Here, I have actual options. And unlike most gluten free breads, the bagels are actually normal sized and have the taste and texture of a bagel, IYKYK. Also the prices are so reasonable. The only other restaurant in the neighborhood with gluten free bagels is nearly double the price and only has two options. The staff are absolutely lovely! Very kind, great personalities, patient, and answered all of my questions. All around an amazing experience and I will 100% be back. Definitely worth waking up early on a weekend to beat the usual crowds here. May 31 · Tashja Johnson
- Novel and innovative bagels and fillings and cream cheeses. A solid fusion of asian and jewish flavors like miso and gochujiang bagels with wasabi cream cheese. High quality ingredients. I would absolutely go here over the other bagel joints in Greenpoint. Please go and see for yourself!Recs:- The miso or duck egg bagel with wasabi cream cheese and tomato- The babkas and rugelach!- The tuna bacon and egg breakfast bagel options!- The baily is solid and flavorful and I think a hidden gem.- Strong coffee!- The seasonal options like mugwort bagels and scallion pancake cream cheese.- the duck egg everything bagel (so savory!)- their classics like the everything bagel and scallion cream cheeseYou can ask for some raw bagel dough to go and, if you're friendly, they'll agree! I recommend buying the dough, and some cream cheese to go.I got a egg and cheese and tuna floss bagel and I was not disappointed!Would go weekly! Some friendly feedback:- your toppings are so innovative, multicultural, and I think it's the thing that separates you guys from the pack. It's what breakfast in new york is all about! Lean into it more? Stronger flavors? Horchata babka? A mole bagel? Thai iced tea babka? A dosa flour bagel? Sriracha cream cheese or bagel? More specials! A milk bread egg sandwich? I think your wasabi cream cheese is the best because it's so distinctive and flavourful.- I noticed some reviews asked for a larger fluffier bagel or the option to toast or even oven heated. Is that something you guys would ever do? June 04 · Jeffrey Wan
- I came to Bagel Joint feeling pretty hyped given all the buzz around this new bagel shop but left feeling incredibly disappointed.Bagels: My friends and I got four bagel sandwiches on specialty bagels. The size of the bagels were too small and amount of filling too little to justify the cost, and the flavors were on par with ingredients you can buy from the grocery store.Chocolate Egg Cream: The chocolate syrup wasn’t mixed in thoroughly, and the drink ended up tasting like watered down milk.Rugelaches: These were actually pretty tasty and came in a variety of yummy fruit flavors.Atmosphere: The store is cute with a fair amount of seating. However, expect every seat to be filled during the weekend rush.Service: We went around noon on Saturday and had to wait in a long line for ~40 minutes. The workers were friendly but given how busy things were, they forgot part of our order.Overall, there’s a lot of potential but the bagels are simply not good enough for me to return to or recommend this restaurant.
