Bakers Bench Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For those of us in Southern California, the search for truly exceptional baked goods—especially ones that cater to plant-based diets—can often feel like a treasure hunt. Fortunately, Los Angeles is home to a true gem that has been making waves far beyond the local food scene: Bakers Bench. Located in the historic Victor Heights neighborhood, adjacent to Downtown LA, this bakery has quickly risen to prominence, not just as a fantastic vegan bakery, but as one of the best bakeries in the entire country, an accolade noted by prestigious publications like The New York Times.
Bakers Bench, spearheaded by the talented baker Jennifer Yee, is revolutionizing the pastry world. They have proven that flaky, rich, and utterly delicious pastries can be crafted without traditional dairy, butter, or eggs. While the bakery itself maintains a philosophy of striving to make the best pastries, vegan or otherwise, the vast majority of their celebrated offerings are plant-based. It is this combination of world-class technique, innovative flavor profiles, and a commitment to quality ingredients that makes Bakers Bench a unique and necessary stop for any California food enthusiast.
The bakery first gained a devoted following as a highly successful pop-up kiosk in Chinatown’s Far East Plaza. Following this immense popularity, Bakers Bench recently celebrated the grand opening of its first brick-and-mortar location in the charming Alpine Courtyard. This expansion is a testament to the quality of their artisan baked goods and has allowed them to enhance their menu offerings with additional savory items, while still keeping the focus on the pastries that made them famous. Whether you are strictly vegan, exploring plant-based options, or simply a lover of high-quality baking, Bakers Bench offers a delightful experience in a lovely, inviting setting.
The core of the Bakers Bench identity lies in its masterful creation of the vegan croissant. Many patrons, both vegan and non-vegan, have proclaimed them to be among the finest they have ever tasted, competing favorably with—and in some opinions surpassing—their traditional butter-laden counterparts. Beyond the classics, the bakery is lauded for its inventive, seasonal specials that often fuse traditional French pastry techniques with unique Asian-inspired flavors, reflecting the baker's first-generation Chinese background and culinary expertise.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Absolutely phenomenal. The egg roll croissant (pictured) is one of the best things I have ever tasted. The flavor creations in all their pastries are next level. The pastries are top tier. In addition to the egg roll croissant, I’ve had the corn chili oil danish, mulberry black sesame danish, focaccia sandwich, and cinnamon twist. Lovely service from Caroline, as well. This will be my regular spot for divine pastries.
July 07 · Jaylene WallickFor a vegan bakery, it’s pretty up there. My second time here and they had new items that weren’t there before. Our favorites are the eggroll croissant, the tomato croissant, the onion croissant, and the furikake croissant! Service is great and both times we had a peaceful Sunday morning breakfast in the courtyard.
May 19 · BEN LEEThis bakery is serving some of the best pastries in LA - especially their croissants! I believe everything is vegan but when you try them, they taste like their non-vegan counterparts. I love that they have seasonal savory pastries in their case! They have a nice patio area that is shared between the few restaurants/cafes as well so you can relax.
December 14 · Lydia ChengI made it there 30 minutes before closing on a Sunday. Their service was great and the pastries are delicious. The garden area outside is so serene and unexpected. Looking towards it from the street you'd never know it has this cute little area.
