Donut Crazy New Haven Introduce
For residents of Connecticut, especially those in and around New Haven, Donut Crazy has become a local institution known for its unique and indulgent take on a classic treat. This isn't your average donut shop; it's a place where donuts are elevated to a massive, sharing-portion size, and the flavors are as creative as they are abundant. The shop's reputation is built on these oversized creations, which often feature "crazy" combinations of toppings and fillings. For many, a single donut from Donut Crazy is a satisfying meal in itself, justifying the price point with its sheer size and richness. The menu is an adventure, with options that go far beyond the standard glazed or jelly-filled. While some flavors, like the red velvet, may not live up to every customer's expectations, the ones with filling are particularly beloved, offering a soft, warm center even after a quick microwave session the next day. Beyond the donuts, the shop provides a full range of beverages, from hot coffee to a variety of cold drinks, though a first-time visitor might be so focused on the donuts that they forget to order one. The ambiance of the place is described as "very cute," making it a pleasant spot to sit down and enjoy a treat. However, it is important to note that public feedback on customer service has been mixed, with some patrons experiencing a lack of communication and attentiveness from staff. This is a point of contention for some, but many still find the quality and creativity of the donuts to be a strong enough draw to return. Donut Crazy has a loyal following that appreciates the sheer decadence of their offerings and the fun, over-the-top experience they provide. It's the go-to spot for a big, bold, and memorable sweet treat in New Haven.
Donut Crazy is conveniently located at 290 York St, New Haven, CT 06511, USA. Its "very cute" interior, as mentioned by a reviewer, also makes it a comfortable spot to dine in and enjoy a coffee with a donut, rather than just a grab-and-go experience. The location in the midst of other shops and restaurants adds to the overall appeal, making it a natural destination for anyone looking for a sweet treat after a meal or a shopping trip. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Massive size donuts with the craziest mixture! For me, these size donuts were sharing potion size. I just simply could not eat the whole thing myself. Ordered a dozen and got 2 free donuts, which was nice. Roughly $40-ish for a dozen but I think the size justifies the price per donut. My favorite were the ones with filling because even though the outside of the donut was hard the next day, just microwave it for 10-15 seconds, makes the filling and the outside soft and warm. My least favorite was the red velvet surprisingly. Sounds great on paper, but quite the opposite when devouring. Didn’t really taste like red velvet to me. They offer beverages there too, but I’m so disappointed I didn’t get one before leaving. Would’ve been nice to have a hot drink with a donut. Overall, the place was very cute. I would come back and perhaps try dining in the next time where I can also enjoy a beverage.
April 02 · R HoI had an incredibly disappointing experience at Crazy Donuts in New Haven that warrants this review. I arrived to pick up an order and found the shop completely empty—no customers, no line—yet what followed was a masterclass in poor customer service.I stood directly at the register for five full minutes without so much as a glance or a greeting from the two women working behind the counter. I was the only customer in the shop, yet they completely ignored me as if I were invisible. This is customer service 101—acknowledge your guest! A simple "We'll be with you shortly" would have sufficed. When one of them finally made eye contact, I politely mentioned I was there for a pickup order. She briefly responded and turned to her coworker without providing any update or reassurance. So, I sat down and waited another five minutes, assuming my order was still being prepared. To my absolute astonishment, the woman then grabbed the exact same bag that had been sitting behind the counter since I walked in—a full 10 minutes prior. My order had been ready the entire time! This was an infuriating display of disorganization and carelessness. If they had simply asked my name when I first arrived, I could have been on my way in under a minute. Instead, I was left standing and waiting unnecessarily, treated like an afterthought in an otherwise empty shop. The donuts behind the counter looked delicious, but honestly, no food is worth being disrespected as a customer. If this is how they handle a single pickup order in a completely empty store, I can’t imagine what happens when they’re busy.Crazy Donuts needs to understand that customer service is not optional—it's essential. A friendly greeting, basic communication, and respect for people’s time are non-negotiable. Until they get their act together, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.
February 16 · ChetConveniently located near Yale and a few shopping stores. The donuts are as expected from a standard donut shop. However, the service left something to be desired, coming across as a bit rude despite the basic level of service.
September 04 · Andrew MLoved the vibe here and the staff were super friendly! We got three donuts; maple bacon, Adam's apple pie and the french toast. Adam's apple pie donut was easily the best out of the three. The cheesecake apple filling inside just made everything so much better. Highly recommend this one.
September 11 · Goushi KubotaIt is not a donut, it is a cake. The stuffed french toast was delicious. You need a fork to eat these. Really really sweet. The inside seems like a vibe.
