What is Worth Choosing at Jina Bakes?
Choosing what to order at Jina Bakes can be the hardest part of the visit, given the rave reviews for almost everything on the menu. However, the bakery has established several items that have become iconic and are essential tasting experiences for any California foodie.
If you are looking for a savory experience that you won't find anywhere else, the Kalbijjim Croissant is non-negotiable. Its collaboration with local Korean cuisine makes it a distinctly San Francisco treat, praised for its flaky layers containing tender, well-spiced short rib. This pastry beautifully challenges the traditional notion of a croissant, turning it into a rich, substantial breakfast or lunch item.
For those with a love for uniquely Asian-inspired sweets that are balanced and not excessively sugary, the Injeolmi Croissant and the Black Sesame Cream Puff are highly recommended. The Injeolmi Croissant offers a chewy, mochi-like surprise inside a crispy croissant shell, perfectly accented by the nutty soybean powder. Similarly, the Black Sesame Cream Puff is a hit because of its creamy, earthy filling that avoids the cloying sweetness of many Western desserts, offering a sophisticated and satisfying alternative. The popular flavors of Matcha and Hojicha Cream Puffs also offer delightful, earthy, and aromatic variations on the classic choux pastry.
Beyond the standouts, the bakery ensures that even their more traditional items, like the regular Croissant or Kouign-Amann, are executed with the highest level of craftsmanship. Their dedication to using Asian flavors extends into their beverages, making the Honeycomb Toffee Latte a perfect pairing to complete your experience. Jina Bakes truly excels at its innovative concept, making any choice here a rewarding venture into French-Asian pastry fusion. Remember to plan for a quick visit, as seating is in the surrounding food court area, and be prepared for a potential line—a small price to pay for such unique and delicious baked goods.
In summary, Jina Bakes isn't just a bakery; it's a culinary destination in California, bridging cultures through exceptional and creative pastries. Its unique menu, friendly atmosphere, and high-quality offerings firmly establish it as a must-try spot in San Francisco's Japantown.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This place is dangerous! The baked goods are delicious, and you'll want to eat everything before you get home.Located on the bottom floor in the Japantown mall, there's usually a line to get in and the pastries sell out quickly. We tried the popular black sesame creme puffs, croissant, and Kalbijjim Croissant. Savory or sweet - you won't be disappointed.
September 27 · Dyanna VolekVery good and special crossiants with Asian flavors! We tried Kalbijjim crossiant, Injoelmi crossiant at bottom, and hojicha puff, spending ~$20 in total.Injoelmi crossiant is perfect for people who like (just a little) sweet bakeries and mochi. Not too sweet and tastes amazing. The soy bean flour on top also adds the flavor. The mochi and soy bean flour can be hard to digest, so just need to be cautious about the amount for people who have a weak stomach.Kalbijjim crossiant is savory and great for people loving salty crossiants. The hojicha puff is not too sweet, but the crust is not so soft and tastes a bit dry.The store is in a food court/market And doesn't have seatings. But there are seatings in the court inside.
September 19 · Yirui Arlene ZhangThe kalbijjim and injeolmi croissants are unique and fun! The hojicha cream puff was super fragrant and creamy. The black sesame cream puff is alright.
August 13 · Kelly WenDecided to visit the bakery on a rainy day at 10:30 and was able to get in and order with absolutely no line.My friends would rave about their injeolmi and their kalbijjim croissant, their signature pastries, so I had to get those along with the banoffee croissant. The injeolmi croissant has mochi inside and the outside layers are super flaky, making the combinations of textures super enjoyable, not to mention the strong taste of injeolmi which I loved. The kalbijjim croissant was a lot sweeter than I imagined since I thought it would be a lot more on the savory side. Still delicious tho! The banoffee croissant has pieces of banana inside with a sweet, crunchy coffee layer. As a cream lover as well this was amazing and something I can see myself craving from time to time.Giving this a 4 star since their pastries are on the pricier side but def makes it worth fort their unique offerings!
August 16 · Sarina IwaiI’m going to be dreaming about their Banoffee croissant for the rest of my life. The short rib croissant and coffees were also amazing. This is a must-visit location!!!!
