Marissa's Bakery Introduce
This in-depth article is crafted for Minnesotans, particularly those in the Twin Cities region, who are looking for authentic, high-quality, and affordable Mexican cuisine and baked goods from a long-standing, community-focused business.
Introduction / Overview
Marissa's Bakery, located on the famed "Eat Street" stretch of Nicollet Avenue, is much more than a simple bakery—it is a cornerstone of the Mexican-American community in Minneapolis and a beloved institution for all locals. Named after the owner's first-born daughter, this establishment is the culmination of a third-generation Mexican baker's vision to bring authentic, high-quality panadería (Mexican bakery) traditions to Minnesota.
The business has successfully expanded from a small bakery into a full-service culinary hub, which includes the renowned bakery, a deli/taquería, and an adjoining Latin American grocery store. This combined model makes Marissa's a true one-stop-shop for both delicious, freshly baked treats and authentic Mexican ingredients.
At its heart, the Bakery is known for its vast selection of Mexican sweet breads and pastries, such as the famous Vanilla and Mocha Tres Leches Cakes, Flan, and colorful Conchas. Customers consistently rave about the freshness and incredibly budget-friendly pricing, often calling the experience "more than worth it."
The Deli/Taquería section complements the bakery perfectly, offering a comprehensive menu of authentic, cooked-to-order Mexican fare. Diners can enjoy everything from Street Tacos and Quesabirria to hearty Tortas (Mexican sandwiches) and specialty plates like Pollo Al Carbon and Menudo. Marissa's Bakery truly integrates the sweet and savory sides of Mexican cuisine, making it an essential destination on Eat Street.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I love this place! The bakery is fantastic, but I have to practice self control and not go in there every time I come to the grocery store. The grocery store side of the place is a colorful, beautiful, place that just makes me happy when I walk inside. They sell an array of items from cooking vessels, utensils, dishes, to a whole isle of inexpensive spices, fresh produce, meats, and many things specific to Central and South American cooking and cuisine. They have a breakfast/lunch counter with a seating area where you can order an array of authentic cuisine including tacos, beans and rice, burritos and more.
September 21 · Mata PI didn't know what most of these were, only went off of what other strangers recommended. It was $23 at the end which was more than worth it. Everything was yummy, some maybe sweeter than one could have in one sitting.
March 20 · Daniel BCame across the bakery as I was walking by. Another fellow customer told me that he comes all the way from St. Paul to get their bread every week, so I picked up half a dozen including empanadas and they were so good. The baked goods are so inexpensive too. Highly recommended.
April 30 · Ryo Hamasaki (Reo)Always good ;) it’s always fresh because there is a lot of traffic. The grocery store next door is not connected but they are all on the same block.
February 01 · been’thereTruly a Southside "jewel in the rough" when it comes to bakery treats from Mexico! Baked right here in Minneapolis, you can't get more authentic than what you'll find in rows on the shelves, packed with freshly baked muffins, rolls, pastries, donuts, cookies, and treats! On the corner of 28th & Nicollet ave. S., this has to be the Twin Cities BEST!!!! Try it for yourself, you'll be happy you did! Oh, and please give this review a quick thumbs up if you found it helpful! Have a great day!!
