Mee Mee Bakery Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Mee Mee Bakery, a beloved institution in San Francisco’s historic Chinatown, offers California residents and visitors a uniquely authentic and charming experience. Operating since 1950, this bakery is not merely a place to buy baked goods; it is a vital piece of the city's living history and a true factory storefront where customers can witness tradition in action. Mee Mee Bakery specializes in both retail and wholesale production, primarily of its world-famous fortune cookies. However, its expansive menu extends to a wide variety of traditional Chinese pastries, cookies, and fresh breads, making it a comprehensive destination for Asian baked delicacies.
The atmosphere is defined by an old-fashioned style, transporting visitors back in time with its quiet, focused dedication to craft. This classic approach is even reflected in the presence of a "super old school cash register," a detail many long-time customers appreciate. While the allure of freshly made fortune cookies—available in a mix of classic, chocolate, and strawberry flavors—is a major draw, many locals swear by the quality of the other products. One standout is their Wife Cake, described by a customer as the "best I have ever had" due to its distinctively crunchy interior, a characteristic unique to this specific shop in the entire San Francisco area. Mee Mee Bakery is an essential visit for anyone seeking a quick, genuine, and high-quality Chinese bakery experience in Northern California.
Location and Accessibility

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1A quiet little bakery that makes fortune cookies in the back. I love the old fashioned style this place has. They even have a neat looking super old school cash register. They make other baked goods and pastries but the fortune cookies are the main draw for me. There's a few sizes, shapes, and flavors to their cookies. Try the mix bag if you want to sample the different flavors (original, chocolate, and strawberry). Some of the best deals are the bag of "Rejected" fortune cookies they sell near the counter which are discounted because its a bit misshapen, has no fortune slips, or a tiny bit burnt(which i love and think it adds a bit more flavor). The rejects are like the Belly Flops for Jelly Belly, same great taste but a bit funny looking and an amazing price. If you have time, you can go deeper into the store and watch the sweet old ladies make some of the fortune cookies. If you are ready to check out with your items but see nobody at the front counter, just wave and say hi to one of the nice old ladies working in the back and they will come and help you out.
June 29 · ElteaI have only buy the wife cake here, and it’s the best I have ever had. It’s different than all the other ones as the inside is crunchy. Both my husband and I really liked it. This types of wife cake I can only get from SFO and from that store only. I have tried wife cake from 6 different stories in one day and this is it the best. Will definitely go back just got their wife cake and maybe try some of there other stuff as well
May 06 · Jannet JiangThis is where the Japanese tea garden sources their cookies from. Very delicious but one batch of cookies tastes like the oil is slightly rancid. Still love these cookies and will continue to buy and share with family and friends.
December 20 · Mishi NovaThis shop isn’t your standard bakery with baked goods and pastries. It is more known for their flat fortune cookies and pig ear cookies. There are a variety of flavors of fortune cookies including strawberry and chocolate in mini and regular sized shapes in various bag weights. I personally get tired of these cookies pretty fast so if you love them you’ll probably find something you like here. I believe they are also a wholesaler and sell these cookies on the side. If you do stop by here you should try their pig ear shaped cookies. They come in a standard size bag and are thin and super crunchy. They are fresh and the flavor is mildly sweet. I believe this is what customers come back and rave about. The drawback is that they limit you to 2 bags per person which seems kind of silly. The man who handles the checkout is always in a grumpy mood so do expect that. I would stop by if I was in the area but it’s not anything I would go out of my way for. There are only metered parking nearby but you can park in the lot that is a few blocks away.
November 22 · Jimmy LyThey limit 2 bags of cow ear crackers per person?! And they don't sell them till 2pm? They keep them behind the counter till you've paid? And during my latest visit in July 2021, the guy behind counter said I must pre-order the cow ear cookies?! The cookies are good, but they make them so impossible to buy.
