Nick + Sons Bakery Introduce
In the vibrant heart of Brooklyn, where every corner seems to tell a story, lies a bakery that has captured the attention of locals and pastry enthusiasts alike. Nick + Sons Bakery, a name that resonates with quality and an unwavering dedication to the craft of baking, has become an essential stop for anyone seeking an authentic and high-quality baked good. From its humble beginnings to its current bustling location, the bakery has cultivated a reputation for excellence, particularly for its croissants. More than just a place to grab a morning pastry, Nick + Sons has established itself as a true community hub, embodying a simple yet profound philosophy: good bread and pastries can bring people together. Its success is built on a foundation of precision, passion, and a deep appreciation for the artistry behind every loaf and laminated layer.
The story of Nick + Sons is a testament to the power of inspiration and community. It all began when co-founder Nicholas Heavican, a photographer at the time, was so moved by a piece of sourdough bread in Iceland that he decided to change his life's path. With no prior baking experience, he immersed himself in the culture and craft, learning not just how to bake, but how a bakery could become a vital part of a neighborhood's social fabric. Returning to Brooklyn, he teamed up with Nick Brophy, and together, they started their journey. The bakery's initial location was a small, weekend-only walk-up shop in Williamsburg, which quickly gained a devoted following. The overwhelming support from the community led to a move to a larger space in Greenpoint, directly across from McCarren Park, allowing them to expand their operations and connect even more deeply with their neighbors. This new location, with its open-kitchen layout, was designed specifically to foster a connection between the bakers and the community—a nod to the Icelandic bakery that started it all.
Today, Nick + Sons Bakery is more than just a business; it's a neighborhood institution. The deep, burnished color of their pastries is a visual signature, a promise of the precise lamination and rich flavor that awaits. Their croissants, in particular, are legendary—known for a satisfying crackle rather than a mere whisper. Whether it's the plain croissant with its perfectly balanced salty and buttery notes, or the chocolate croissant lacquered to a high shine, each pastry is a work of art. The bakery’s commitment to quality extends to every item on its menu, from the aromatic cardamom buns to their serious, artisanal sourdough. In a city filled with countless food options, Nick + Sons has carved out a unique space by prioritizing quality over convenience, making every bite a memorable experience. The frequent lines of loyal customers, from stroller-pushing parents to devoted oat-milk loyalists, are a testament to the bakery’s well-earned status as a Greenpoint treasure and a must-visit destination for anyone in the New York area.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Exceptionally crispy croissant! The exterior was nice and crunchy, and the interior was incredibly fluffy. While it didn’t have as many layers as I’d hoped and the butter flavor, though present, wasn’t very strong, it was still a delightful croissant. The bakery itself consists of a warehouse with no seating, just a bar area.
July 16 · Antonia N.At Nick + Sons, the croissant does not whisper—it crackles. Hidden behind graffiti-streaked doors and a line of stroller-pushers and oat-milk loyalists, this bustling Greenpoint bakery hums with a quiet certainty: if you’re here, you’ll wait—and you’ll be glad you did.The pastries emerge deep-burnished, shattering under light pressure. The chocolate croissant is lacquered like a violin, its lamination crisp and authoritative; the cardamom bun twirls itself into a sugar-dusted soliloquy, aromatic and surprisingly restrained. But it’s the plain croissant that startles with precision: salty, buttery, and utterly serious.Inside, the place is all brick and bustle—an industrial warmth, where bakers work in open view, and the espresso machine steams without drama. This is not a spot for lingering, but for reverence. One bite and the line outside makes sense.
June 01 · Yunong ShiI've come up to this place via Google maps and the numerous reviews, but honestly, I couldn't find any reason for coming back. The quality here seems very average, like their prices.Tried the chocolate croissant, the blueberry Danish, and the cinnamon roll. The croissant was way too mushy and with no texture, felt like a frozen dough. The Danish had some volume but you must forget about the fillings. The roll was more enjoyable and the only one with a texture and I'm not a cinnamon fan.The place is somewhat different than the other bakeries, and this is a plus.I stopped by mid Sunday Morning, and there was no line. However, 10 minutes later, they were packed.I Left very confused.
February 03 · Alessandro FratiYes, please. Huge and comfy space. There are plenty of servers who are nice and friendly. BUT it's these pastries that make this place IT. These pastries are just OUTSTANDING. The plain croissant was sold out at 10:45 am, so I opted for an apple tart (mind-blowing) and a cardamom bun (one of the best I've had in NYC and I am a little ashamed to admit that I've had my fair share).I would journey for these pastries and I expect I will.
April 09 · Lisa WilliamsI've seen this spot numerous times on Maps and on social media, but I unfortunately could not understand the hype.3/5 Everything Bagel Croissant with cream cheese filling -- I'd hardly call this a croissant, maybe a slightly buttery roll. The lamination of the pastries in other Williamsburg/Greenpoint bakeries far out does this croissant. Also the amt of filling was extremely disappointing (see photo), I would barely call it a shmear.I visited on a Friday around noon, they were sold out of most things I wanted to try based on other reviews.
