pHlour Bakery & Cafe Introduce
For residents of Chicago, particularly those in the Edgewater/Andersonville area (zip code 60660), pHlour Bakery & Cafe stands as a strong example of a local business dedicated to both culinary quality and community inclusivity. Functioning as a full-service Bakery and cafe, pHlour has built a reputation on specialized, high-quality baked goods that draw comparison to international standards.
The bakery’s core identity is anchored in exceptional products, such as its critically acclaimed cardamom bun. One patron, after trying the treat at a local market, lauded it as being "Honestly almost Europe/Norway level good." The bakery also serves a strong selection of croissants and bread that are consistently favored by regular customers, and the Ham & Cheese with a latte combination is often cited as being "worth the price occasionally." These specific highlights position pHlour as a source for true specialty baking, focusing on European techniques and quality ingredients.
Beyond the food, pHlour is distinguished by its strong, overt commitment to creating a welcoming and safe environment for all members of the Illinois community. It is explicitly labeled as LGBTQ+ friendly and a Transgender safespace, backed by inclusive features like a Gender-neutral restroom. This strong community focus makes it a reliable and comfortable spot for a diverse customer base to enjoy their Coffee and Breakfast options, or simply make a Quick visit for takeout.
It is important for potential patrons to note the candid feedback regarding pricing and recent product changes. While the quality is generally high, some customers find the prices "a bit steep," with one long-time patron citing disappointment over recent purchases that were "much smaller and not worth the price at all" compared to previous years. This suggests that while the quality remains strong (as evidenced by the cardamom bun praise), the perceived value proposition may have shifted recently for some consumers. Customers typically view pHlour as a place for an occasional, high-quality treat rather than an inexpensive daily stop.

July 13 · BrittanyI like their croissants and bread, but the prices are a bit steep for me. I only go about twice a month. I think $4 for a croissant is much too much. But, the Ham & Cheese with a latte is worth the price occasionally. Unfortunately, I just went back this morning to buy a plain croissant and a ham & cheese croissant and I was extremely disappointed this time. The croissants are much smaller and not worth the price at all. Last year they were much bigger and better. I will be searching for a new bakery or making my own ham & cheese croissants at home.
July 08 · Audrey ChurchillI stop in for their day olds breads ($2 but come early!) and coffee. Sometimes a turkey sandwich when I've been good. 😇
July 25 · Tommy TranThis place really used to be a great cafe, but I think the owners really just want to run a wholesale business, not a cafe. Over the years the cafe space has gotten squeezed and shrunk so there are only a few tables left and they have a lot less options and pastries than they used to . But they've really reached a new low as their only guest bathroom has been out of order for weeks. I mean it's one thing if it's an emergency for one day but seriously? Who runs a cafe without a working restroom for so long? If management actually wants to run a cafe here they need to get their shit together. I gave it 2* instead of 1* because it used to be good and I used to spend a lot of time here. Too bad.
