★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Fresh donuts, pies, and other items. Sit inside or order and go. Simple basic café coffee but you really go here for the donuts cash only. Support local for yourself, your community and your taste buds. Service was quick and pleasant.
January 30 · LynI really want to like this place. What should be a good bakery in the heart of Essex? Sign me up! But almost every time we order from here, we are disappointed and have to throw away food (and thus our money). While the prices are very affordable, everything tastes quite old and dry. What prompted me to write today was the monkey bread- totally burned and rock hard, hubby bought it and you can’t even eat it! Check the pics, those aren’t black raisins on the top, I broke off a bit to check- it was charcoal and I had to spit it out. The monkey bread literally is inedible and leaves a bad taste. How a bakery stays in business with poor quality bakery items for 50+ years, I really don’t know, but obviously it has a devoted following. There are always old folks there hanging out, so clearly they love it. We try going a couple times each year hoping it will get better, but no luck so far. Also why do they only take cash? Are all purchases under the table? So inconvenient and really ostracizing in today’s world. Get a square reader at least! Will we be back? Maybe…maybe not. Sadly there aren’t a lot of other options
December 30 · E GI moved into the area around 14 years ago and each time I've gone in here, including today, we've been treated like an annoyance by the staff. So much so, that we've left each time, without food. Patrons will also stare at you like new people don't belong. Big, boys-club vibes. I thought things may have gotten better after a decade but they did not. I will not go back and I do not recommend this place. Outsiders are not welcome. Very unfortunate.
August 17 · Brittany FitzSimmonsThe plain glazed donuts are the best around. The woman working there is rude and you will have to wait a while before she helps you, but that donut will melt in your mouth.
October 08 · Melissa CzaplickeSo, to start, I want to say that I have been ordering cakes and buying baked goods from Quality Bake Shop for decades. But, unfortunately, they no longer live up to the "quality" their name implies. I ordered a graduation cake for my granddaughter's college graduation from UVM. I ordered a full sheet cake - white cake, traditional frosting, with yellow roses, green leaves, and "Congratulations Alexis" on the cake. 1st, I get a call on Tuesday asking why we didn't pick up the cake (4 days before I was scheduled to pick up the cake) -they made it for the wrong weekend and said it was "blue and white". So, I provided the order again and they assured me that our cake would be ready on Saturday as promised. Then I get another call later the same week asking me why I didn't pick up the cupcakes I ordered. I responded again that I did not order cupcakes, and I once again explained what I did order, and a very snarky woman said, "Yes, yes... we already have that!" And, I'm thinking then why are you calling me. Fast forward to Saturday morning, I am at work, so my husband drives the 1/2 hour to pick up the cake. The cake is wrong - no yellow roses... no roses at all, AND my granddaughter's name in cursive reads Alexrs with a dot over the "r." The cake is covered with green sprinkles and gold sugar crystals. My husband is told that there is no baker on site and that they will discount $10 if we still want the cake. We dont really have a choice, so he takes the cake and calls me at work to let me know. I have him pick up the ingredients for roses (costing more than $10) and at 9PM on Saturday I am making the roses and decorating the cake. Does it end there? NO. We bring the cake to the graduation party and, when we go to serve it, find that the cake is half chocolate and half white and stale...every slice crumbled and fell apart. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Unfortunately, we won't be ordering again, and we can only hope that by posting this review, we can prevent another family from suffering the same experience.
