This establishment is not just a bakery; it is a living piece of family history, with a baking tradition stretching back to the 1880s when the family business was first established in South Philadelphia. Carrying on this profound legacy, Robert Weinrich opened the current shop at 3545 West Chester Pike in 1961, bringing generations of German baking techniques and recipes to Delaware County.
The philosophy that guides R. Weinrich German Bakery is rooted in a steadfast commitment to traditional, old-fashioned methods. They remain committed to creating the best pastries, cakes, and baked goods by using only the purest, freshest, and highest quality ingredients. This dedication to heritage ensures that every product, from a slice of German Butter Cake to an elaborately decorated specialty cake, offers an authentic and consistently delicious experience. Locals appreciate this commitment, often commenting on the moistness of the cake batter and the smooth, buttery texture of their signature buttercream icing, a recipe Robert received from his father and has been using since the bakery’s opening in Newtown Square.
R. Weinrich German Bakery operates as a family-owned small business, where personal service is as important as the quality of the products. They serve as a destination for everyday treats, special occasion catering, and an array of specialty German and American baked goods, making them a valued resource for the entire community. It is a place where you can quickly visit for a fresh cup of coffee and a pastry, or spend time planning the perfect custom centerpiece for a major celebration.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1What a wonderful old-school bakery. I recently moved hours away from the bakery I used to use. I love good pound cake with buttercream icing. That is difficult to find. For my son's 5th birthday party, I decided to try Weinrich's. This cake did not disappoint. It was absolutely delicious. It was decorated beautifully. All of my guests were raving about it and asked for seconds or a piece to take home. Needless to say, I found our new bakery.Update! We ordered my daughter's first birthday cake and smash cake from Weinrich's! It was absolutely gorgeous and delish too. The decorator sure went out of their way to make this cake special!
August 06 · Deborah GleiterThey’ve really stepped it up with their cake decorating - requested soft pastels for a woodland themed baby shower and they came up with a lovely design. I’ve ordered their large linzer cookies, individually wrapped, as baby shower and wedding favors, which got rave reviews from our guests both times! They did the bows for the baby shower favors which were perfect. Quality of the cookies and cake is excellent, and they’re very easy to work with over the phone.
September 20 · Brit VezinaWhen you walk inside the bakery, you see all kind of very kind of cookies, donuts, cakes, pastries, brownies, excellent service and I highly recommend if you want a tasty treat, you come to the right place
June 03 · George MarreroEverything they make is delicious. Their doughnuts are fresh, the cakes are moist and the icing not overly sweet, and the pies are just like the ones my grandmother and great aunts used to make. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Just a wonderful bakery.
August 07 · David SnyderBest old school bakery. If you haven't been, you gotta go. Brings back so much nostalgia for me, I love the cookies
