For locals in search of a genuinely unique sweet treat, this is a destination that delivers a remarkable sensory experience unlike anything else in the San Fernando Valley.
The core offering here is the chimney cake, known by its Hungarian name, Kürtöskalács, or its Czech/Slovak name, Trdelnik. This isn't just another pastry; it's a centuries-old tradition baked right before your eyes. The essence of Roll In The Dough lies in its commitment to authenticity, specifically its use of a real charcoal flame—a detail that ensures the dough achieves the perfect balance of a beautifully crispy, caramelized exterior and a soft, fluffy, yeasted interior. This baking technique infuses the cake with a subtle, smoky sweetness that is impossible to replicate in a conventional oven, creating a dessert that is warm, aromatic, and deeply satisfying.
Upon walking up to the bakery, customers are often captivated by the sight and smell of the dough slowly spinning and baking. The resulting chimney cake forms a perfect cylinder, hollowed out and ready to be customized with an array of delicious fillings and toppings. Bakery (Specializing in Chimney Cakes)
Choosing a dessert in Los Angeles offers endless options, but Roll In The Dough stands out precisely because it offers something different: a genuine taste of Central European street dessert culture. The single most compelling reason to choose this bakery is the opportunity to experience an authentic Kürtöskalács (Chimney Cake) prepared in the traditional way—baked over a charcoal flame.
The experience begins with the texture. The warm dough, freshly baked, offers a delicate contrast: a wonderfully crispy outside with a sugary, caramelized crust that cracks delicately, giving way to the fluffy, soft yeasted dough on the inside. This textural complexity is the signature of a perfectly made chimney cake.
The flavor customization further elevates the treat. The hollowed-out center is the perfect vessel for a rich spread like Nutella or the house Euro cream, which melts slightly into the warm interior. This creamy filling is perfectly complemented by the exterior, which can be rolled in a variety of coatings, from classic cinnamon sugar to savory nuts or sweet cookie crumbs. The combination of warm, soft dough, a creamy center, and crunchy, sweet topping makes for a highly satisfying dessert that appeals to all ages.
Furthermore, the value of the visit extends beyond the product itself. Customers consistently praise the owner, describing her as warm, sweet, and engaging. This personalized, friendly service ensures that every person who stops by the corner on Lankershim Boulevard leaves not just with a delicious treat, but with a memorable, positive human interaction. For California residents seeking an authentic, handcrafted, and conversation-worthy dessert that is also completely vegan, Roll In The Dough in North Hollywood offers an unmissable destination for settling that late-night sweet craving or grabbing a quick, delicious snack. It is a genuine piece of Hungarian and Central European tradition flourishing right here in Los Angeles.

Wow! Incredible chimney cake, made very authentic with a real charcoal flame. So delicious crispy outside and fluffy yeasted dough on the inside. I’m so glad we stopped by!! April 12 · Katerina KThis lady has the most authentic street desert from the streets of Hungary right on the streets of North Hollywood. If you have never tried them i definitely suggest it. It is warm and sweet like the lady serving the treats. She loves to converse while you are waiting for the most delicious, unique desert you’ve ever had. Think of the softest, warmest dough coated in a light sugar hollowed out and your choice of Nutella, jam, Euro cream spread in side and rolled in a topping like nuts cinnamon, cookie crumbs, etc… all wrapped in a photo quality package to take with you. The presentation itself is worth the get. Everything is hand made too. Give her shot and you will also be going back like me just to settle that late night craving.
