★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Some of the best pastries I’ve ever had. I will always glad drive 2+ hours for the pleasure of enjoying their wares.I’ve visited multiple times and consistently been delighted. I strongly suggest the cherry tomato and cheese, the zucchini and cheese, the strawberry and almond, or just the croissants are a delight.Kind and efficient staff, and excellent coffee options, too.
May 29 · Colin ConnorLoved this place! First the pastries are amazing! The savory mushroom and the fig and cheese were both fabulous. The dough has the right amount of crunch and flakiness on the outside making the required mess of delicious flaky crumbs that good croissants make while still having a soft inside. SO GOOD!! The pain au raisin was also good but not quite as good as the others -- the filling might be a little too wet/heavy so the pastry soaks doesn't quite get the same flakiness as the other two pastries. As for the bread, we got a day-old standard loaf for half off and it was also great. It has a wonderful sour note to it and a crispy crust. The only thing is that the hydration level might be a tad too high because the inside was still a little wet so it was the tiniest bit gummy when slicing even though it was obviously fully cooled since it's day-old, but a little toasting helped that. Will definitely return!
April 13 · Alexandra SmithWent in around 8:30 AM and there was a long line already.Got butter croissants and chocolate croissants. Some of the best croissants I ever had, flakey and delicious. Will definitely be my stop during every visit to Richmond going forward. The only disappointment was there was a limit of 8 on the number of items we could buy. There were other items I wanted to try but couldn’t.
August 21 · VI recommend any pastry or bread when thin layers. Like croissant. They are so crispy!! Their soft bread is good too but the crispy ones are exceptionally good. I had pistachio cherry croissant and bread pudding and decide to eat croissant in place and pudding for to-go, and it was a very good choice.
February 25 · Ellie SohnI love bakeries, and I love a good croissant. Richmond has plenty of great options for croissants, but believe me when I say that Sub Rosa Bakery has the best croissants I've ever had in my life; specifically, the Miller's Wheat croissant. The Miller's Wheat croissant is not greasy at all, yet still has so much crispyness on the outside, and the perfect amount of chew on the inside. To this day, I just have not had a better plain croissant than this, anywhere in the US.With that said, the other options here are also super tasty. Fig & cheese croissant is a family favorite, and my wife and I always get two Pain Au Chocolates for both of us, which has plenty of chocolate without being overbearing. My wife also loves the cappuccino here and says it's the best she's ever had.
