★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1It has now become one of my favorite bakeries. Outstanding croissants and buns. Overall strong flavors and on the sweet side. Good on a day you are craving sweet or deserve treats.Technically a take-out only spot, but now they put some chairs and tables outside.🥐❤️🔥✨Croissant was a MUST! The dough was sooooo professionally made. Crispy layers, soft, chewy and pliable.💜The fig one was really really delicious with a great balance between sweetness and saltiness. The Black Forest one was a little bit too intense (and no cherry flavors at all) but definitely for chocolate lovers.Buns are a YES. It was so soft, a little bit chewy and still pliable. However, flavors were really sweet. (just a reminder) Classic cinnamon one was straightforward. Thai tea flavor was even more sweet.
July 14 · Julia HsiaTall Poppy in Chelsea won me over despite the sticker shock. I walked in knowing I was about to over $40 on three small pastries and a cold brew, and somehow walked out with zero regret.I came specifically for the Shakshuka Croissant. It’s filled with harissa-spiced tomato sauce, a soft jammy egg, and crumbled feta. On paper, it sounds incredible. Visually, it delivers. But mine wasn’t warm, and unfortunately they don’t have any way to reheat pastries. That definitely took something away from it. I kept thinking how amazing it must taste fresh out of the oven. But then the Everything Cruffin absolutely saved the day. It’s a croissant-muffin hybrid with housemade bagel seasoning and chive cream cheese inside. Unreal. The texture, the flavor, the cleverness of the concept. It’s what I’ll be coming back for.The Black Forest Croissant was also a star. Flaky and buttery, with a just-right bitter dark chocolate ganache and tart dried cherries inside. Not too sweet, not too rich. Just perfect.Coffee was forgettable, but the service wasn’t. Staff were friendly, quick, and happy to explain everything. You can tell they take pride in what they’re doing.Tall Poppy is not the kind of place you swing by every day, unless you’re living in a different financial reality. But when you need a treat, something special, it’s absolutely worth the splurge.
July 10 · maciek macakHave you ever had a croissant and then dreamt about it all day? I did after eating one at Tall Poppy. I sat outside at a small round red table to eat it. The croissant had a burnished golden exterior with a sheen of honey on top. The interior was buttery and flaky. Each bite gave me such joy and I ate it slowly. I always thought that the croissants at Alf’s Bakery and The Bakery at the Greywind were the best in the City. While they are good, Tall Poppy’s croissant is impressive and far superior.
April 12 · Sabena SinghVery good croissant! Tried the plain croissant, which was suuper buttery, with a sweet butter glaze on the outside. It is quite chewy and more dense- less light than a classic croissant. Definitely recommend- although it is quite pricey.
July 17 · Antonia N.I’d give 4.5 to the pastries. Well executed, not too sweet but ultimately just not in a style I would pick again. Pistachios croissant had a vanilla crème inside and whole pistachios. Wrong? No. What I want? No. Strawberry miso bun, well made but lacking flavor. Like double the strawberry and miso please. Basically the things are made well but were too milk toast for me.
