From Lucie Introduce
In the bustling and competitive culinary scene of New York, a bakery that stands out for both its taste and its aesthetic is a rare and precious find. From Lucie, a small gem nestled in the East Village, is exactly that kind of place. Founded by Lucie Franc de Ferriere, who drew inspiration from her upbringing in the French countryside, this bakery creates cakes that are not just desserts, but genuine works of art. The focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients and delicate floral decorations has garnered a significant following, making it a go-to spot for those seeking a cake that is as beautiful to look at as it is delicious to eat. For New Yorkers celebrating a special occasion or simply craving a unique treat, From Lucie offers a truly memorable experience that feels both luxurious and intimately personal.
The cakes at From Lucie are the main event, and they consistently receive high praise for their stunning appearance and flavor. The carrot cake, in particular, is a customer favorite that has been described as "absolutely perfect." One reviewer noted that the cake was "incredibly moist, fresh, and just the right amount of sweet," a quality that is particularly appreciated. What truly sets these cakes apart, however, is their visual appeal. Topped with "the most gorgeous fresh flowers," each cake is a masterpiece that elevates any celebration. This fusion of baking and floral design is a signature of From Lucie, making every creation feel like a custom piece of art. This dedication to aesthetics and flavor ensures that the cakes are not just a dessert but a central part of the celebration.
While the cakes are widely loved, it is important for potential customers to understand the nuances of From Lucie's offerings. One review mentioned a small carrot cake that, while "beautifully decorated and delicious," had a "doughy" texture more like a muffin and was considered overpriced for its size. This feedback, while mixed, provides valuable insight into the unique style of the bakery. Their approach is less about creating a traditional, dense cake and more about capturing the rustic, home-baked feel of the French countryside. This distinct style might not be what every customer expects, but for those who appreciate a lighter, less conventional texture and a less-sweet flavor profile, it's a perfect match. The high prices also reflect the high quality of ingredients, the handcrafted nature of each item, and the unique, artistic design that goes into every cake.
Located at 263 E 10th St, New York, NY 10009, From Lucie is situated in the heart of the East Village. This vibrant, historic neighborhood is easily accessible by various subway lines and bus routes, making it a convenient destination for people all over Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs. The bakery's physical space is noted for its charm, though it is described as "cramped" and "not very comfortable to be inside for long." This detail suggests that the bakery is more of a quick stop for grabbing a treat rather than a place to linger. The limited seating encourages customers to take their delicious cakes to go, perhaps to enjoy at a nearby park like Tompkins Square Park, which adds to the neighborhood's unique, on-the-go culture.
From Lucie offers a range of services that cater to both individual cravings and larger events. The bakery specializes in custom cakes for weddings and other special occasions, with customers encouraged to inquire via email. They use seasonal ingredients, which means their menu and cake designs are always evolving and fresh. Inclusivity is also a key feature, as they offer vegan and gluten-free options, such as a vegan orange cake and a gluten-free carrot cake. This commitment to providing delicious options for people with different dietary needs is a significant plus for the diverse population of New York. The bakery's menu is a creative exploration of unique flavor combinations, such as a Vegan Lemon Cake with Elderflower Icing and Raspberry Jam, which further distinguishes it from more traditional bakeries.
The brand's presence extends beyond its physical location. From Lucie has a strong social media following, where its stunning floral cakes have achieved a "cult status." This digital presence plays a crucial role in its business, serving as a gallery of its work and a primary way for customers to engage with the brand. This modern approach to marketing and customer engagement is a perfect fit for a city that thrives on visual culture and online recommendations. The owner's background in art history is evident in every creation, with each cake meticulously designed to be a "statement piece" that is both edible and beautiful. This unique blend of art and baking is a major draw for customers who are looking for something truly special.
In a city where aesthetics often go hand-in-hand with culinary excellence, From Lucie has successfully carved out its own niche. It has become a beloved local spot for its unique approach to baking, its beautiful designs, and its commitment to quality. The bakery's story, from its founder's French roots to its East Village home, resonates with many New Yorkers who appreciate a business with a clear identity and a passionate vision. While it may not be the cheapest or the most spacious bakery in town, its offerings are an investment in a truly special and memorable culinary experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1We got a carrot cake from From Lucie for my partner’s 30th birthday, and it was absolutely perfect. The cake was incredibly moist, fresh, and just the right amount of sweet (Very important for Asians). But what truly blew us away was how stunning it looked—topped with the most gorgeous fresh flowers, it felt like a work of art. It made the celebration feel extra special, and we loved every bite. Thank you for creating something so beautiful and delicious!
June 17 · Xavier Wang~$17 Small Carrot Cake anyone?~Came here from all the hypes I heard. Carrot Cake is beautifully decorated and delicious but tastes more like Carrot muffins. Texture is not cake but more doughy like basic muffins. It definitely doesn't justify $17 price tag. The size and weight is not more than a cup cake. It's pretty for photo but that's that. The place is cramped and not very comfortable to be inside for long.
May 29 · A.C. LambertEverything about this place was picturesque and perfect, including the world's best chocolate chip cookie I've ever had. Each decadent piece of cake or pie was crafted with creativity and a floral arrangement for some unique and special aspect. Staff was awesome and the whole east Village block itself was a great backdrop for a perfect Experience all around. A definite recommend.
May 26 · Fit Gear HunterThe olive oil cake was delish! Light, not too sweet, and flavorful. Banana bread average. Unfortunately they don’t have water at the shop which i found a little weird. Service felt like they didn’t wanna be there. Any time there are tiny flowers on a cake I assume they’re edible - these were unfortunately not and I had to spit out so much cake 😭
June 20 · Catalina AltomonteJust attended a Pop-up yesterday that they had with Elizabeth Arden. The staff was friendly and the bakery was clean and super cute. I loved the pistachio matcha pink chocolate cookie. It was not too sweet, you can taste the matcha and pistachio but it wasn't overpowering each other. A really good cookie that makes me want to try more of the bakery items. Definitely coming back.
