Kaffeeklatsch Seattle Introduce
For Washington state residents seeking a unique and deeply authentic culinary experience, **Kaffeeklatsch Seattle** stands out as a true neighborhood treasure. More than just a local **Bakery** or **Coffee shop**, it functions as a vibrant **Cafe** and **German restaurant**, specializing in traditional German-style baked goods that evoke genuine nostalgia for many patrons. The name itself is German for "A social gathering around coffee," perfectly encapsulating the mission of this Lake City establishment: to be a beloved "third place" and community hub.
Since its establishment in 2011, this **Small business**—proudly **Identified as women-owned**—has built its reputation on two pillars: exceptional, scratch-made German pastries and a fiercely inclusive environment. It is explicitly noted as both an **LGBTQ+ friendly** space and a **Transgender safespace**, underscoring its commitment to being welcoming to all members of the Washington community.
The core of the menu is an authentic range of German treats. Customers with German heritage often rave that the bakery items, particularly the **Brotchen** (bread rolls), taste *exactly* like those from bakeries in Germany, providing an "authentic German flavor." Key highlights include the famous **Bienenstich** (bee sting cake), a sweet, yeasty cake with an almond crust and a light custard filling, and various traditional **Blechkuchen** (sheet cakes), such as plum (**Pflaumenkuchen**). Beyond these authentic sweets, Kaffeeklatsch is also a renowned **Pretzel store**. These soft, perfectly salted German pretzels are so popular that the bakery has developed a significant wholesale business, supplying around 30 local breweries and restaurants across the Seattle area.
While the traditional German items are the main draw, the café is fully equipped for a modern coffee experience. They partner with quality local suppliers like Seattle Coffee Works and offer a full espresso bar, including **Latte**, **Mocha**, and **Breve** ($7.80), as well as the unique option of **Nitro** cold brew, though patrons should note that one customer found a recent nitro brew to be "acrid" and "super acidic." This contrast highlights the importance of exploring the wide variety of offerings, from the classic **Frenchpress** ($3.45) to the special **Lake City cookie**—a locally celebrated favorite. Despite the occasional critical review focusing on one specific drink or the general ambiance, the majority of feedback emphasizes the high quality of the authentic baked goods and the importance of the shop's existence to the neighborhood.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The nitro cold brew was acrid… not creamy or smooth despite all the foaminess at the top. It was super acidic and didn’t taste right. That plus two biscottis was like $16! Super overpriced especially for the quality. The white biscotti had a weird after taste, kind of like of chicken bouillon. Chocolate biscotti was better. The cafe itself has a grunge granola feel that I’m not personally into. It smells like B.O. not fresh pastries or coffee. I’m leaving this review because I live in the neighborhood and I’m disappointed that this is one of the only coffee shops here. It has 4.5 stars currently, but it doesn’t live up to many other cafes in Seattle at that rating and are way better. I’ve been very disappointed from the multiple times I’ve given this place a chance. Lake city deserved better! Disclaimer I did finish the cold brew because cause I was thirsty and needed caffeine lol.
July 29 · Kaliane VanSuch a cool space. Love that they exist. Shockingly spacious with a unique cuisine and approach to service.Try the lake city cookie!
July 14 · Yogi DonovanI’ve been coming here since 2012, and I used to really love it. Unfortunately, it feels like things have dropped off a bit in recent years. For one thing, their prices have skyrocketed! A single drink, even a basic one, somehow ends up costing $12 by itself! I’m used to being able to get a basic mocha and a pastry for that much, not paying that just for the drink alone.I feel like the pastries have gone a bit downhill, too. I used to love their apple turnovers but the last several times I’ve gotten one, there seems to be less and less apple each time. Just an empty pocket of lightly fried dough with maybe two tiny apple pieces inside. There’s been a lot less variety, too.Overall, I hate to say this given it’s now our only neighborhood coffee spot, but it’s just not worth it anymore. The prices are way too high compared to the product quality, the hours seem to be all over the place, and the staff turnover seems to be way higher now too. I’m not sure what in the world happened here, but I really miss the days when Annika made a regular appearance. Felt like the quality and experience was significantly better back then.
June 26 · Rekka RileyGreat coffee shop with lots of options! Park in the back. It's hard to find parking in front.
May 02 · Jewels LutovskyTook a chance as my usual place is remodeling and I'm glad I did.The pastries and cakes were well made and fresh. The pretzels received the approval of a German citizen. The servers were friendly and engaged in light banter. The place could use a little sprucing up.
