Lodge Bread Company Introduce
Welcome to Lodge Bread Company, a cornerstone of Los Angeles’ burgeoning artisanal food scene. What began in a backyard as a passion project by two friends, Or Amsalam (a two-time James Beard Award Semifinalist) and Alexander Phaneuf, has blossomed into a beloved local institution recognized for its dedication to quality, tradition, and community. More than just a bakery, Lodge Bread Company is a full-service restaurant and a cultural anchor in the Culver City neighborhood. It's a place where the simple, universal act of sharing bread is celebrated daily, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all of its patrons.
The core philosophy at Lodge Bread is simple: craft real, soul-filled food by honoring the slow process of naturally-leavened baking and celebrating local ingredients. The entire operation is centered around the mastery of whole-grain sourdough, a commitment that has positioned them at the forefront of the city's food movement. They champion local farmers and millers, believing that the foundation of great food starts with superior, responsibly-sourced ingredients. This dedication to craft, patience, and quality is palpable in every loaf, pastry, and dish served, a blend of classic techniques with the vibrant flavors of the founders' Middle Eastern heritage. The result is a menu that feels both familiar and excitingly new—a true taste of what Los Angeles food can be: layered, inclusive, and authentic.
Lodge Bread Company transcends the standard bakery model by offering a diverse culinary experience that spans breakfast and lunch, and includes a highly-regarded pizza program. Whether you are stocking up on a weekly loaf or sitting down for a savory breakfast, the experience is designed to foster a sense of community and family.
The founders' journey—from a small backyard operation to a James Beard-recognized establishment—speaks to their unwavering pursuit of excellence and the profound connection they have forged with the local community. It is this spirit that makes Lodge Bread Company a must-visit destination for any Californian seeking world-class baked goods and delicious, high-quality fare.

What is Worth Choosing
Choosing Lodge Bread Company means choosing a dedication to the craft of baking that is virtually unrivaled in the region. The commitment to naturally-leavened, whole-grain sourdough is not just a trend—it’s a foundational pillar that elevates every item on the menu. For the bread enthusiast, the Country Loaf is a non-negotiable choice; it is their classic take on sourdough, praised for its thick, caramelized crust and light, yet chewy crumb. For a savory start to the day, the Breakfast Sammie is an absolute standout, and the Smoked Pastrami or Jambon Beurre are perfect examples of how the superior bread transforms a simple sandwich into a remarkable meal.
Beyond the bread, Lodge Bread Company’s savory options provide incredible flavor and depth, especially with the infusion of Middle Eastern heritage. The Shakshuka, a dish of stewed tomatoes and farm eggs served with their artisanal bread for dipping, is consistently called out as a favorite. The Classic Hummus Plate, served with their renowned fluffy house-made pita, is an essential experience for dipping and sharing.
The bakery’s massive, cinnamon-sugar and cream cheese-slathered Cinnamon Roll is legendary and truly designed for sharing—a perfect treat to take home for the family. Similarly, their pizzas, like the Wild Mushroom or Margherita, offer a unique, flavorful crust thanks to the sourdough base, making them a delicious alternative to conventional options.
In an era of fast food, Lodge Bread Company insists on patience, tradition, and community. It is a humble, yet high-quality destination that rivals the best in the city. If you are looking for a true taste of artisanal baking, a friendly neighborhood feel, and dishes that reflect the rich, diverse palate of Los Angeles, Lodge Bread Company is the place to go. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Possibly my favorite bakery in LA.Rivals the like of Gjusta, but way less posh. The cashier shared that they will be expanding into the next building, and I’m so excited to see what they make with it. Lodge deserves its own footprint.I always make sure to grab a loaf and some pastries for home, when I stop in for a bite. This has been one of my go to meeting spots for many years. I only wish they did dinner!I guess a take home pizza kit will have to suffice.Heads up, no WiFi! So you can work from here if you have a hotspot.Dog friendly outside, and easy street parking.
June 15 · Hayley Di NasoOne of my absolute favorite breakfast spots on the Westside! The breakfast sandwich is out of this world—fresh, flavorful, and so satisfying. You can really taste the quality in every bite. The vibe is always welcoming, and the staff is super friendly. Whether you’re grabbing something quick or enjoying a slow morning, Lodge Bread never disappoints!
June 08 · Sarah NicoleThe bakery surely impressed me by the rich varieties of bread and pastries they carried. Not only that, even the brunch menu gave abundant selections to pick from. The place was always busy with long lines and you could see even tons of pickup orders bags stood there at the counter. They had mini patio right in front of the bakery where you could enjoy the dishes, but highly recommended to place order ahead for the bakery items as they're sold out uber fast. The turnaround was relatively fast as people were chilling under the sunlight but typically doing quick meal.I tried their Jambon Beurre, which came with cheese as well. Before it was served, I thought it's kinda pricey but when I saw it, the giant size made it totally worthy, especially with the super generous stuffing. The baguette itself was doubtlessly on point with perfect texture and so enjoyable. For sweet option, I tried their Ricotta and Jam toast, which was also decadent. I could totally get it why people loved their bread as this one was pretty simple yet also turned out so good with great quality bread. As you could see from the pic, royal amount of lightly creamy ricotta, well balanced by the sweet fruit jam.Would come back to try more, and have been eyeing their croissants and cookies!
August 11 · Jessica GabrielaMy first time here I dined in, I got one of their massive cinnamon rolls. Was so delicious, but couldn't finish it as 1 person,Also had their avocado toast which wasn't amazing as it looked, the bread was a bit toastier and mb a little burnt on the underside.2nd time I thought I'll try one of their pizzas and another cinnamon roll to go. I enjoyed the pizza I had the mushroom one, definitely a healthy pizza. As for cinnamon roll I thought it least it would be warm, was a little disappointed to get a cold cinnamon roll. I know I probably could just heat it myself but was that the purpose of getting to go food?
April 15 · R VThe sourdough cinnamon roll here is massive! More importantly, it’s really tasty. Definitely enough for 2 people to share at least, plus you get a big container of icing on the side. The icing has a nice citrusy taste and isn’t too sweet. I also tried the bread pudding which was also excellent. It was moist with a nice texture on the top.We were able to park in front of the building when we went, but that can fill up. If so, you may need to pay in an adjacent structure.
