Warning ⚠️ about the banana 🍌 pudding that I purchased on 7/10/25. They sold me SPOILED EXPIRED puddings. They smelled really bad like rotten milk 🤮 I was upset because not only was the smell bad but the pudding was visibly lumping and bumping. They keep expired food inside their fridge until an unsuspecting customer comes in and buys it 🤢 That is a health hazard and should be handled appropriately. SHAME ON YOU Mrs.Maxwells for selling expired food!!!!!!!! - Kiara Ramos

Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery Introduce

For New Yorkers navigating the vibrant and diverse culinary landscape of Brooklyn, Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery on Van Siclen Avenue stands as a local establishment serving the community. Like many neighborhood bakeries, it aims to provide convenient access to everyday baked goods for residents in its vicinity. Such local spots are often vital hubs, offering familiar treats and a quick stop for daily needs.

Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery is positioned to cater to the daily demands for fresh bread, pastries, and desserts within its East New York locale. These types of bakeries often become ingrained in the routine of local residents, providing quick and accessible options for breakfast items, snacks, or cakes for various occasions. The presence of a bakery like Mrs. Maxwell's contributes to the self-sufficiency and convenience of a neighborhood, allowing residents to fulfill their immediate baking needs close to home.

However, it is important to address recent customer feedback that has raised significant concerns about the quality and freshness of products. One review specifically details the purchase of "SPOILED EXPIRED" banana pudding on July 10, 2025, noting a "rotten milk" smell and "visibly lumping and bumping" consistency. The customer expressed strong disappointment, labeling it a "health hazard." Another review mentions receiving a "molded cake" on a birthday, highlighting both a health risk and the ruining of a special moment, coupled with a lack of apology or explanation. A third review suggests a decline in quality, stating, "This is not giving OG Maxwell from back in the days... it’s more of a Maxwell imposter!!!!!!!!!!!" These serious concerns about product freshness and customer service are crucial for any potential patron to consider when evaluating Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery.

Services Offered

Based on the typical offerings of neighborhood bakeries and the implied context of customer reviews, Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery likely provides a range of standard baked goods:

  • Breads and Rolls: A fundamental offering for most bakeries, providing daily staples for meals.

  • Pastries: A selection of common pastries such as muffins, croissants, danishes, or other sweet breakfast or snack items.

  • Cakes: Various cakes for celebratory occasions, including custom orders for birthdays or other events. The review mentioning a "molded cake" implies cakes are a significant part of their offerings, despite the negative experience reported.

  • Puddings: As evidenced by the specific mention of "banana pudding" in a customer review, puddings are among their dessert offerings.

  • Cookies and Small Desserts: Convenient, individually portioned sweet treats for quick indulgence.

  • Take-Out Service: The primary mode of operation for such bakeries, allowing customers to quickly purchase items to enjoy elsewhere.

Features / Highlights

Given the available customer feedback, it is challenging to identify consistently positive features or highlights. However, based on the *intent* of a local bakery and the *types* of products mentioned, potential highlights, assuming consistent quality, would traditionally include:

  • Local Convenience: The bakery's location on Van Siclen Avenue makes it a highly convenient option for residents in East New York to quickly purchase baked goods without extensive travel.

  • Neighborhood Presence: As a local business, Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery is part of the fabric of the East New York community, providing a familiar and accessible option for daily needs.

  • Variety of Baked Goods: A traditional strength of local bakeries is offering a diverse range of items from breads to cakes, catering to different preferences and occasions.

  • Potential for Nostalgia: The review mentioning "OG Maxwell from back in the days" suggests that the bakery may have a history or legacy in the neighborhood, potentially evoking nostalgic feelings for long-time residents (though this sentiment appears challenged by current perceptions).

However, it is critical to acknowledge that recent customer reviews indicate significant issues regarding:

  • Product Freshness and Safety: Reports of "spoiled expired puddings" and a "molded cake" are serious concerns that directly impact food safety and customer trust.

  • Customer Service and Accountability: The reported lack of apology, explanation, or goodwill gesture after selling compromised products is a major negative highlight, impacting customer perception of reliability and care.

  • Inconsistent Quality: The sentiment that the current offerings are not "giving OG Maxwell" suggests a perceived decline in quality compared to previous iterations or expectations.

Conclusion: Why Mrs. Maxwell's Bakery is Suitable for Locals

For New Yorkers in the East New York section of Brooklyn, a local bakery like Mrs. Maxwell's aims to offer the convenience of quickly acquiring fresh baked goods without needing to venture far. Its location on Van Siclen Avenue and accessibility via public transport positions it as a practical choice for residents seeking daily bread, a sweet treat, or a celebratory cake.

However, prospective patrons should be aware of recent and severe customer feedback concerning product freshness and quality. Reports of spoiled and molded items, along with criticisms regarding customer service responses, raise serious concerns that are crucial for any local user to consider.
