What is Worth Choosing
When you visit Praline Bakery, certain items stand out as 'must-try' choices based on the consistent customer feedback and the bakery's specialties. The overall consensus highlights their mastery of classic French sweets.
The French Macarons are arguably the star of the show. With their delicate, crisp exterior and rich, house-made fillings, they embody the European patisserie charm. Visitors consistently recommend them, praising their texture and variety of flavors. If you’re looking for a small, intensely flavorful treat, start here.
Another highly recommended choice is the Lemon Bar. For those who prefer a strong, genuine citrus kick, the bakery's version is celebrated for having a robust lemon flavor, moving beyond a mildly flavored dessert to a truly tart and satisfying experience.
Finally, for a complete start to your day or a midday lift, pair one of their freshly baked croissants—a staple of French baking and a testament to the owners' expertise—with a rich Lavazza Coffee, such as a latte or cappuccino. This combination offers an authentic, high-quality European breakfast experience right in the heart of the District of Columbia.
While Praline Bakery has a reputation for high-quality, authentic products, it's worth noting that the experience can be improved by visiting earlier in the day. As some customers have mentioned, popular items can run low in the afternoon. A morning stop ensures the best selection of their freshly made pastries. When you plan your visit to The Wharf, make sure to carve out time to experience this local favorite, where White House pedigree meets beloved neighborhood bakery.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I had a good experience here today. I got there right at opening and the cashier with glasses was able to help me pick out a nice selection of pastries for a celebration tonight.Everything tastes as expected. The lemon in the lemon bar is strong which is exactly what I like. The cookies and cupcakes were good and had the right flavors and textures, but the cupcakes were undercooked. The cake stuck together and to the paper. The macaroons are good. I didn’t get any this time but had them twice before and the same with the sandwiches.
May 25 · Adam RiemerI came to this shop earlier today while exploring the wharf area in DC. It seemed like a cute and exciting place from the outside. To my dismay, inside was different story. I’m not sure what their hours are, but at 2pm there was only one young lady working and the pastry case were pretty skimp. Not much to choose from at all. I ended up walking out without purchasing anything and there were other people inside who seem to have been waiting for a long time as well.
July 22 · Brittany WalkerI stopped by District Praline after visiting Starbucks, hoping to grab a cookie to pair with my tea. The bakery offers macarons, pastries, and cookies, which looked appealing from the outside.Unfortunately, the customer service was underwhelming. The staff was short and not very helpful—when I asked questions about the products, they couldn’t offer any real suggestions or guidance. It felt like they weren’t interested in creating a welcoming experience.I ordered a lemon drop cookie, which was okay—not bad, but nothing memorable. What really stood out was the price: over $3 for one cookie, with no deals for buying multiple. I purchased it because I wasn’t feeling well and just wanted something small to enjoy with my tea, but on a regular day, I wouldn’t pay that much for a single cookie. To top it off, when I asked for a printed receipt, I was told the machine was broken. While things happen, I believe that if a customer requests a receipt, one should be provided in print form.Overall, the concept of the bakery is nice, but the execution and customer service fall short. I won’t be returning—mainly due to high prices, unhelpful staff, and poor accountability at the register.
September 21 · M Myers-SmallsGood options for sweet and savory options. They also serve Lavazza coffee products. They also serve French macarons and freshly baked cookies on site. We had the espresso chocolate, triple chocolate cookie, and macarons. Reasonably priced given the location at Wharf DC.
February 16 · Mark BenitezThe Praline Bakery seems large for the few products they had when we visited them. Entering it, as it looked like an European store from the outside, we were surprise at the very simple and kind of lack of personality of the store inside. Both main displays were basically empty but had great macaroons (specially the apricot and caramel ones!). Although the price per piece was rather high for the size of the macaroons, (smaller than regular macaroons) the taste made it worth the price. The day we were there they had Italian soft nougat bars in several different flavors. Although the price was also high the quality and taste was great!!! We bought several of these bars and we enjoyed them very much!!! The girls at the counter were less than friendly!!
