Spilt Milk Introduce
Introduction / Overview
Nestled in the heart of Oak Park, Illinois, Spilt Milk is more than just a local bakery—it's a community institution built on a foundation of passion, homemade goodness, and a deep commitment to its neighbors. Founded by sisters Meg and Molly Svec, this women-owned business has garnered a loyal following for its exceptional pies and American-style pastries, all baked from scratch right in their Oak Park shop. What began in Molly's apartment kitchen and a farmers market stand in 2014 has blossomed into a beloved brick-and-mortar location that serves up comfort and culinary excellence every day. The ethos of Spilt Milk is simple yet powerful: celebrate classic flavors, utilize locally sourced and seasonal ingredients from Midwest farms, and create a warm, welcoming space for everyone in the community.
The journey of Spilt Milk is a testament to the support of the Illinois community. When an unexpected plumbing issue forced the closure of their original storefront during the pandemic, local residents rallied, contributing significantly to an Indiegogo campaign that helped the sisters move and build out a new, expanded location just around the corner. This new space, with its bright murals and artisan, open kitchen layout, allows customers to sit, gather, and even catch a glimpse of the baking action, making the experience all the more personal and inviting. From the flaky, all-butter crusts of their specialty pies to their inventive, seasonal quiches and perfectly laminated croissants, Spilt Milk exemplifies high-quality, handcrafted baking in the Chicago suburban landscape.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I ate my food too fast to take a picture but I highly recommend this place. The quiche of the day was delicious and sitting outside in the back was a very special treat. I tried a caramel thumbprint cookie and by the time I went to get another one the rest were sold out and I can see why! After we sat in and ate some food we picked up some to-go cardamom teas for a walk. I'll be back thanks for the great food and service.
April 28 · Sarah LTucked away in Oak Park, this sweet little bakery fills the morning air with the scent of fresh treats. Inside, bright murals and irresistible chocolate cookies create a cozy, cheerful vibe. It’s a must-visit spot — the prices are a bit high, but the quality more than makes up for it.
April 28 · Stella LiuNot as good as I thought it would be. S'Mores Pie didn't have a very good flavor, Chocolate Cream Pie was better but pretty one note. Key Lime was better tasting but crust was incredibly crumbly. Chocolate Chip Cookie was average. Raspberry Cherry Pie was good, best of the bunch. Take and bake biscuits, pies, and granola were incredibly expensive. Way overpriced on those.
September 27 · Beth RuyleI’ve been a couple times before and didn’t really love anything that I tried but I love a local bakery so wanted to try again. I placed an order for a Friday meal and wow, it was so good! I also purchased a couple of slices of pie and loved them. Prices are high for the baked goods ($25 for two slices of pie and a cookie) but I’m okay with that as long as the taste is good. I can’t afford that regularly but I’ll splurge every once in a while. Will definitely check out the Friday meals more often! Glad I gave it another shot.
July 12 · Lola MassenbergI stopped for a quick bit of food cause I was doing inspections in the area and was not disappointed. The sandwich was difficult to eat at first cause my mouth wasn’t big enough. This biscuit was huge, most likely cause it was fresh. The biscuit was on point and I’ve never had eggs so fluffy either! I also got a peanut butter cookie. So good!! Would recommend. Coffee was coffee, it’s a bakery though so …
