Tucked away on E 187th Street, this beloved storefront offers an authentic taste of Italy, focusing on high-quality, freshly baked bread items that have garnered a loyal following. Unlike many modern bakeries that diversify into a vast array of pastries and cakes, Terranova Bakery holds true to its roots, specializing in the foundational elements of Italian cuisine: exceptional bread.
From the moment you step inside, the inviting aroma of warm, yeasty bread fills the air, signaling that you've arrived at a place where tradition and craftsmanship are paramount. Their dedication to classic bread varieties, like their celebrated pane di casa and the irresistible olive bread, speaks volumes about their commitment to quality over quantity. This focused approach ensures that every loaf is baked to perfection, offering a crusty exterior and a tender, flavorful crumb.
The charm of Terranova Bakery also lies in its unpretentious, neighborhood feel. It's the kind of place where the staff remembers faces, and the sense of community is palpable. While the selection of desserts might be sparse and limited mostly to packaged cookies, the star of the show is undeniably their freshly baked bread. This specialization makes it a destination for those seeking genuine Italian bread for their daily meals, sandwiches, or simply to enjoy with a drizzle of olive oil. For residents of the Bronx and visitors to Arthur Avenue, Terranova Bakery represents a crucial piece of the area's rich culinary heritage.
Their reputation for making outstanding bread precedes them, drawing customers from all over New York City. Whether it's the simple yet profound flavor of their basic pizza bread or the savory indulgence of their warm prosciutto bread, Terranova Bakery consistently delivers on its promise of authentic Italian baking. It's a testament to the idea that sometimes, focusing on a few things and doing them exceptionally well is the true recipe for success.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great little storefront with fresh bread items and some sparse desserts (just packaged cookies). No cakes, danish or similar treats available. The staff were all super sweet and helpful. Their olive bread is amazing! A previous reviewer mentioned them “making” off menu items for their friends/neighbors and I fully believe her. A gent came in during my visit and requested something they definitely don’t carry but they told him to wait while getting it prepared for him. Guess it’s more “who you know”. I’ll definitely return just for the pane di casa and olive bread.
January 10 · Beck RThe most delicious! Try just their basic pizza bread and be blown away! My favorite is the Prosciutto Bread, fresh out of the oven it's only $5.
January 16 · Caleb WrightMoved away from NY many years ago. But today we returned to Arthur Ave and 187th, Bronx NY. Terranova you have awakened a childhood memory with your "LARD BREAD" that you call "CHICKLE"? I have not had lard bread that porky and delicious in 60 yrs! Now after returning home, I will make another trip to get as much of it as you have on hand. The other bread is also very good but the lard bread has to be hidden from me or else....
