Winter Pie Shop Introduce
Located amidst the festive and highly trafficked area of Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, **Winter Pie Shop** is a bakery that is part of a larger complex of seasonal food stalls and shops. Its presence is often tied to the winter market or other events that transform the park into a bustling destination. The shop aims to provide comforting baked goods and warm beverages to New Yorkers and tourists enjoying the park's atmosphere. This type of pop-up or seasonal business is a common sight in New York, catering to the high volume of foot traffic and the desire for convenient, festive treats during special events.
The shop's offerings, while praised for being a decent option, have also received feedback regarding their pricing and perceived value. For example, a customer noted that the vegan hot chocolate, priced at $7.50 before tax, was a disappointment in terms of flavor and size, especially when compared to more affordable and flavorful options available elsewhere in the city. This sentiment of high prices for smaller portions is a key point of consideration for anyone visiting. It's a common characteristic of businesses operating in prime, tourist-heavy locations like Bryant Park, where a premium is often charged for the convenience and ambiance.
However, it is important to contextualize this feedback. The shop itself seems to be part of a larger phenomenon within the Bryant Park complex, where markups are a general rule rather than an exception. The staff, as noted by a customer, are often described as nice, which can contribute to a more positive experience despite the pricing. The hand pies and other items, such as the s'mores, are generally considered to be of decent quality. While the value proposition might not be what some customers expect, the shop does provide a service—convenient, warm treats in a beautiful and popular public space—that many are willing to pay for, especially during the colder months when a warm beverage is a welcome relief.
Winter Pie Shop is located at **33-37 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018**. This address places it directly within or in the immediate vicinity of Bryant Park, one of Midtown Manhattan's most famous public spaces. The park is a major hub of activity throughout the year, especially during its winter market, drawing in a massive number of visitors.
The accessibility of this location is excellent, which is a major advantage for any business. Bryant Park is a short walk from Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station, two of the city's most significant transportation hubs. It is served by numerous subway lines, including the B, D, F, M, and 7 trains, as well as multiple bus routes along 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue. This makes the shop easily reachable from almost any part of the city, whether by a local commuter or a tourist. The high level of foot traffic is a direct result of this superb accessibility.
Given its location, the shop's primary customers are likely to be those already enjoying the amenities of Bryant Park, such as the ice rink or the holiday market. The convenience of grabbing a quick pie or hot chocolate without leaving the park is a key part of its business model. For locals, while they might have more affordable options elsewhere, the Winter Pie Shop offers a convenient and pleasant option for a spontaneous treat while enjoying the park.
Winter Pie Shop specializes in providing a selection of warm, comforting treats that are well-suited for a cold day in Bryant Park. The menu is focused on a few key items that are popular during the colder seasons.
Here is a list of some of the services and items you can expect to find:
- Vegan Hot Chocolate: The shop offers a vegan hot chocolate, which is a key item for customers with dietary restrictions. While the flavor has been noted as lacking for its price, it does provide a necessary option.
- Hand Pies: The menu includes hand pies, with one review mentioning a "vegan apple hand pie." These are a popular, easy-to-eat item perfect for enjoying on the go.
- S'mores: A customer review mentioned a s'more as a purchase, indicating that the shop offers other sweet and popular treats that are often associated with winter and outdoor activities.
The services are primarily focused on quick, grab-and-go items. The shop's role within the larger Bryant Park complex means it is designed for convenience, not a sit-down dining experience. The limited but specific menu caters to a clear need for warming, sweet treats in a bustling public space, which is a valuable service in itself, especially during the holidays.
Winter Pie Shop's main features are intrinsically linked to its location and the products it offers.
Here are some of the key highlights that define this bakery:
- Convenient Bryant Park Location: The shop's presence in Bryant Park is its most significant highlight. It offers a convenient option for anyone already at the park, eliminating the need to search elsewhere for a snack or beverage.
- Dietary-Friendly Options: The availability of vegan options, such as the vegan hot chocolate and apple hand pie, is a key feature that makes the shop more inclusive and appealing to a wider audience.
- Seasonal and Thematic Menu: The menu is well-suited for the winter season, with items like hand pies, s'mores, and hot chocolate that fit the cozy, festive atmosphere of Bryant Park.
- Friendly Staff: A positive customer service experience, as noted by a review mentioning the staff was "nice," helps to offset any potential issues with pricing or product expectations.
The main challenge for this shop is the pricing, which is seen as a significant markup for the value received. This is a crucial point for a local audience, who are often more aware of the general price points for similar items in the city. The high prices are a direct consequence of the prime location, and a customer must weigh the convenience against the cost. However, for a spontaneous treat in a beautiful setting, many people are willing to make the trade-off.
For those seeking to find Winter Pie Shop, here is the essential contact information, though it is primarily a physical location to visit rather than a place to call ahead.
- Address: 33-37 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018, USA
- Phone: (646) 820-9828
The address is the most important piece of information for visitors. The phone number is available for inquiries, though it may be more for general business purposes than for individual product questions. For a shop that is part of a larger complex, walking up and experiencing it directly is the most common way to engage with the business.
Winter Pie Shop, in the context of the Bryant Park complex, is suitable for locals as a convenient and quick option for a seasonal treat. While New Yorkers are savvy about pricing and may find better value elsewhere in the city, the shop's value lies in its location and the experience it provides. It is an ideal spot for a spontaneous dessert or a warm beverage while enjoying the unique and festive atmosphere of the park, especially during the holidays. The convenience of not having to leave the park to find a warm drink or a sweet pastry is a major selling point.
The shop also caters to specific dietary needs with its vegan options, which is a thoughtful and inclusive feature that is appreciated by a diverse urban population. The friendly staff and the overall pleasant environment of Bryant Park can make for a positive experience, even if the price point is high. For the local looking to fully embrace the seasonal charms of Manhattan, Winter Pie Shop is a functional and pleasant option that enhances the park experience. It's not a destination in itself for many, but rather a perfect complement to a day spent enjoying one of the city's great public spaces.

Winter Pie Shop Reviews
hot chocolateveganapple piepricemarshmallows
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The vegan hot chocolate was $7.50 USD before tax. Came to around $8.17 with tax. For such a price, I expected something really special - but it turned out to be the worst hot chocolate I had during my NYC trip (and I had ordered hot chocolate from about 5 different stores). Very little flavor, and a very small cup size. Most of the shops I had visited sold hot chocolate for around $4.50, and the cup was larger and the hot chocolate was much more flavorful. This was daylight robbery, quite frankly. I am not singling out Winter Pie Shop, because I can see other shops in the Bryant Park complex which had the exact same hot chocolate menu. So the markup seems to apply across all Bryant Park shops - it's not remotely worth paying for hot chocolate at Bryant Park, buy it elsewhere.
December 10 · Shanker MenonThe vegan apple hand pie was decent but extremely over priced. That plus a smores came out to 34$. The staff was nice.
