Bagelry Introduce
## Introduction / Overview
**Bagelry** is a distinct, independent establishment on the busy streets of San Francisco, recognized by locals for its highly specialized focus on one thing: the bagel. This shop operates solely as a dedicated **Bagel shop**, forging a reputation among California residents who seek a particular style of baked good that prioritizes density, chewiness, and a perfectly crunchy crust. Unlike mass-market bagels that might go flat, the product at Bagelry is known for being **denser & crunchier**, offering a substantial and satisfying start to the day.
The experience here is characterized by strong opinions; while some customers have noted occasional inconsistencies, a dedicated clientele celebrates the Bagelry's ability to produce a bagel that, when toasted correctly, delivers a truly exceptional texture: a **crust that is crunchy** and **blistering on the outside** while remaining **soft, chewy (dense) on the inside**. Operating as a **family-runned small shop**, the focus is on fast, friendly service and delivering a high-quality product tailored for the local, on-the-go consumer looking for an authentic and filling **Breakfast** item in the Polk Street neighborhood.

## Features / Highlights
The defining feature of Bagelry is the unique, high-quality texture it achieves in its bagels, setting it apart from standard bread-like alternatives. Customers who appreciate a truly dense and crunchy bagel recognize this quality immediately.
Key highlights and features include:
- **Signature Dense & Crunchy Bagel:** The ultimate appeal is the specific bagel texture achieved after toasting: a crust that is **crunchy** and **blistering on the outside (not burned or hard)**, combined with a **soft, chewy (dense) inside**. This profile is consciously chosen and noted as being **much better than Starbucks, Peets & Noah's bagel, Safeway** for those who prefer a denser product that doesn't go flat.
- **Expert Custom Toasting:** The key to this quality is the toasting process, where staff toast the bagels until they achieve that perfect "blister" for **Extra crunchy** results. Customers who are regulars know to ensure their bagel is toasted properly to reach this peak texture.
- **Generous Spreads:** The shop is known for its ample portions of cream cheese. One customer noted there was **Too much cream cheese for me but that's the way my son likes it**, indicating a tendency toward generous application, ensuring a fully covered bagel. The popular choice is the **sesame bagel w/cream cheese**.
- **Family-Run Charm:** The atmosphere of a **family-runned small shop** appeals to locals who prefer supporting independent businesses over large chains, adding a personal touch to the experience.
- **Competitive Pricing:** While prices have slightly adjusted over time (e.g., from $3.00 in 2018 to $3.60 end of 2019 for a sesame bagel with cream cheese), the product is still valued highly for its quality compared to other competing bagels in the area.

## What is worth choosing
For a California local or San Francisco resident seeking a genuinely dense, crunchy-crusted bagel, Bagelry on Polk Street is absolutely worth choosing. The primary reason is its mastery of a specific, superior bagel style that differentiates it from the typical, often softer fare found at larger coffee and grocery chains. When the bagel is toasted to its ideal state—blistered, crunchy, and chewy—it is celebrated as **one of the best I’ve had**, providing a substantial, filling, and texturally perfect **Breakfast** item.
You are choosing an authentic, independent experience. The **family-runned small shop** ambiance and **fast friendly service** are huge drawcards, providing a personal touch often missing in larger chain operations. By focusing heavily on **Takeout** service, the shop ensures that the potential negative impact of the **limited seats & not so great ambience** is minimized, allowing customers to quickly grab their food and enjoy the quality on the go.
To ensure the best possible experience, the key to choosing Bagelry is knowing what to ask for: specify that you want your bagel toasted until it **blisters** to achieve that prized **extra crunchy** crust and dense chew. By emphasizing this preference, you guarantee the high-quality product that has earned the bakery its strong, loyal following. This focus on product quality, speed, and generous portions of cream cheese makes Bagelry an excellent choice for a dedicated, quick, and satisfying bagel fix in the heart of San Francisco.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The first bagel I’ve ever had that made me wish it had a larger hole in the center so that I would have less of it.This was not a bagel, this was not a sandwich, this was a criminal offense. The worst Mc Donalds Bagel sandwich in the world, complete with stale bagel-shaped bread, and congealed hollandaise-esque sauce would deserve a Michelin star next to this shade of an attempt at “breakfast”. At least they would have pride enough in their good work to serve it warm, melt the cheese, and charge less than 8 dollars. The sheer gall that this establishment has to call themselves “the bagelry” instead of the “leftovers from the airport cafe-ry” makes me wish I could make this review Bagel shaped.0/5 stars
December 01 · Jake Van Wart3.5 ⭐Took away 1/2⭐for raising the price by 20% within a year (Orig. 4⭐).Discovered Bagelry end of 2018. Fast friendly service, family-runned small shop. Most people just order to go (limited seats & not so great ambience). Their bagels don't look very pretty but after they toast it, it's one of the best I've had. I mainly order the sesame bagel w/cream cheese. After it's toasted, the crust is crunchy, blistering on the outside (not burned or hard) & soft, chewy (dense) on the inside just the way I like it. Too much cream cheese for me but that's the way my son likes it. Price $3 in 2018➡️$3.25 Jan 2019➡️ $3.60 end of 2019. Since they raised the price to $3.60, I haven't been going there as often. Their bagel is much better than Starbucks, Peets & Noah's bagel, Safeway because it's denser & crunchier. It doesn't go flat like bread does & they toast it more therefore it's crunchier. Occasionally, it's not as good when they don't toast it til it blisters (Extra crunchy but Not Burned).
February 05 · Cindy WongWe loved Bagelry so much. It was the best bagel and egg sandwich in the area. When are you coming back? I miss that Salt Bagel! 😊
March 24 · Chris WilsonThe 3.8 is a lie and a gross misrepresentation of this establishment. First time eating here. Bagel was soft and flavorful. The egg is cracked in front of you. The bacon was tasty and not like what other reviewers claimed. The cheddar cheese was good too. It was a solid breakfast sandwich. And as with all my reviews, I tell folks not that they'll enjoy it but I found it worth going to review for yourself. This establishment deserves your attention and your review and to not judge it by the score shown.
July 28 · Brian JVery solid bagels! Don't go in expecting full Brooklyn quality, but this is a really great neighborhood bagel spot. Breakfast sandwiches, cream cheese, etc are all really nice, and it's ready quickly.
