Brown Sugar Bakery/Veteran Roasters Introduce
Introduction / Overview
For residents of Illinois and those traveling through the state, the combined kiosk of Brown Sugar Bakery and Veteran Roasters offers a truly local and exceptionally flavorful experience right within the bustling environment of Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). Situated in the Food Court of Terminal 3, near Gate K15, this location is a partnership that brings together two distinct and celebrated Chicago brands. It is a genuine slice of the city, perfectly positioned to serve the diverse flow of travelers and airport employees.
Brown Sugar Bakery is widely recognized across Chicago, and indeed, the nation, for its Southern-inspired desserts, particularly its famous caramel cake. Founded by entrepreneur Stephanie Hart, the bakery’s tagline is “dangerously delicious,” a promise it delivers on through its rich, moist, and flavorful cakes, cupcakes, and other baked goods. It has been lauded as one of the city's best bakeries and has even garnered national attention, including a James Beard Award semifinalist nod for Outstanding Baker. This heritage of quality ensures that customers in the Illinois region are getting a top-tier product.
Sharing the space is Veteran Roasters, a Chicago-based coffee company with a powerful social mission. They specialize in premium, small-batch roasted coffee while focusing on hiring and training unhoused and at-risk U.S. military veterans. This synergy creates a unique offering: exceptional, locally made sweets paired with high-quality, ethically sourced, and mission-driven coffee. It’s an essential stop for a quick visit, catering to both your caffeine needs and your craving for authentic Chicago-made desserts.
Location and Accessibility
The Brown Sugar Bakery/Veteran Roasters kiosk is strategically located within one of the busiest travel hubs in Illinois: Chicago O'Hare International Airport.
Address: Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Food Court, ORD Terminal 3, 10000 Bessie Coleman Dr Gate K15, Chicago, IL 60666, USA.
This placement in Terminal 3, specifically near Gate K15 in the K Concourse Food Court, makes it highly accessible for passengers flying through or departing from American Airlines and its partners, which primarily operate out of this terminal. For Illinois residents utilizing ORD, knowing this exact gate area ensures they can quickly find a quality local option without having to leave the secured side of the terminal. The food court is noted by customers as sometimes being quieter than other parts of the terminal, which can translate to a more pleasant and efficient experience, even during peak travel times.
In terms of accessibility features, the location explicitly offers a Wheelchair accessible entrance. This is an important detail for travelers and staff with mobility needs, ensuring a comfortable experience in the high-traffic airport environment. As an establishment within a major metropolitan airport, the entire area is generally well-connected to public transportation, including the CTA Blue Line, which offers direct service to the city center, though the shop itself is located post-security. Its 60666 zip code is synonymous with the airport area, making it a crucial quick-stop for anyone in that immediate vicinity.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Veteran Roasters and Brown Sugar Bakery are apparently two businesses local to Chicago. Their combined kiosk serves typical coffee shop fare in the small food court by the K gates in ORD Terminal 3. This food court was quiet and not busy compared to the other food court that I walked by in Terminal 3, but that could've just been because it was early. The service here was excellent for an airport food court. There was just one cashier/barista, but she was pleasant and efficient. The line moved quickly.I wanted to try their "matcha elaichi" drink, but they were out of the elaichi. I had assumed this was a combination of matcha and chai, but saw someone else get a chai latte, so I guess the elaichi is a different flavouring. I decided to just get a chai latte. The chai was had a slightly artificial taste. I think it was better than Starbucks chai (definitely less sweet) but I still didn't really care for it.I had been planning to get just the drink, but the muffins looked good, so I got a banana nut muffin too. I liked the muffin, it was fluffy and not too oily or sweet. Tasted fresh.Despite the letdown with the drink, I was happy with muffin, and relieved to have such a pleasant experience with the service. I would try this place again if I was in ORD, but order a different drink. I’m not really a grilled cheese person, but the grilled cheese on Texas toast that I saw in the display looked kind of tempting too.
August 16 · Dana SullivanIt's a high quality matcha. If you don't specify, it comes unsweetened as a heads up. Next time, I would get it with vanilla syrup, but you can tell they use matcha of a good quality.
June 04 · Kayla VA friend told me about the BSB located at O'Hara. I promised him that I would bring him a treat from the bakery. I purchased a grill cheese with bacon. When I got to my gate I unwrapped my sandwich and the bacon was uncooked. I had to wait until I got home and popped the bacon in the microwave. I also purchased some treats as I promised my friend. At twelve dollars each, they were not as fresh as I hoped. I'm not going to give up on BSB. I hope to try the 75th street location. If my experience is even remotely close to the one at O'Hara, I will not give this business another cent of my hard earned money. Oh, and please have more than one person working. Thank you
July 16 · Mariethia HenryCame here to make the same complaint I see from 7 months ago - frozen bacon in the sandwich.I got a mocha, it tastes like pumpkin spiced water.Nice people working, but don’t eat here.
June 12 · Christopher BrooksThe staff was friendly and helpful but unfortunately the food was very poor quality overall. $15 for a bacon grill cheese sandwich that includes 2 slices of regular sized bread, cheese, tomato and bacon. Additionally the bacon was cold and appeared raw still.
