What is Worth Choosing
For first-time visitors or loyal California dessert enthusiasts, the most compelling reason to choose Frances Patisserie is the distinct quality and style of its offerings. If you are accustomed to heavy, overly sweet American-style cakes, the French-Japanese approach here will be a revelation. This unique method ensures that the desserts are light, subtly sweet, and beautifully balanced, allowing the natural flavor of the ingredients—such as fresh strawberries, fine matcha, or rich chocolate—to shine through without being overpowered. The shop truly elevates what a local bakery can be.
The selection of small cakes and individual pastries, readily available in the display, makes it the perfect stop for impromptu treats. You don't have to commit to a whole cake to sample the craftsmanship. The Bear Cream Puff, in particular, comes highly recommended by patrons who rave about its generous, smooth, and delicate cream filling. The exquisite layers of the Strawberry Napoleon cake are a textural masterpiece, offering a clean, satisfying crunch with every bite, perfectly contrasted by the creamy filling.
Furthermore, for those milestone California celebrations—a graduation, a big birthday, or an anniversary—the custom-ordered full-size cakes are an excellent choice. Knowing you can order a cake like the Strawberry Napoleon, featuring flawless construction and stunning fruit garnishes, ensures your dessert will be both a visual spectacle and a culinary highlight. The combination of easy accessibility, accommodating service, and unparalleled dessert quality makes Frances Patisserie a premier destination for gourmet baked goods in the greater Los Angeles area. Stop by for a quick, delightful indulgence—you’ll quickly understand why this South Pasadena patisserie has earned its strong local reputation.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Ordered a birthday cake for a friend. They were accommodating with changing the pickup time later in the day. The shop is quite simple inside and out. There was a simple glass display with the options of small cakes and another two displays with desserts. The staff were very kind and patient with the order and the cake was a delicious 7x7 strawberry napoleon cake with flaky layers and bright red strawberries. These layers were not too crumbly and broke off neatly in segments, opening up to the creamy insides. The fruit decoration on top was marvelous and exquisite. This pastry shop is located in a busy small plaza across from Bristol Farms. There is parking but it’s limited and a little tight.
March 30 · Kevin ChenFrench/Japanese/Chinese style bakery with mini selections of cake slices, creme puff, tiramisu, and variation of other cake flavors. You can place an order for larger cakes if needed. The place is pretty small. There's not much area to sit down to enjoy the sweets.I got the matcha chocolate cake, hazelnut tiramisu, and the bear cream puff. All was deliciously good!!Bear cream puff was generously filled with yummy cream. It was delicate and smooth. So darn good!! Wish I got two instead of one.The matcha dark chocolate and tiramisu were delightful! It has a richness but lightness to it. You can taste the skill and craft in these desserts.
November 03 · Miss HDThe strawberry napoleon was so yummy. The strawberries were ripe and juicy and the pastry and filling helped cut the sweetness. It is such a tasty dessert. I was hoping there would be a place to eat inside but there were no seats.
June 25 · Corey GCraving for cream puffs, looking through Yelp and found this pastry cafe in South Pasadena. Initially, I thought the cream puffs were small, they are not. It is huge, and for $5 per piece. It is not just your regular cream puffs, it is a Choux Au Cream Puffs, they design them into the head of a bear, one w/ mask & one w/o, extremely cute. My wife and son love it very much because they aren't too sweet, what a perfect puffs.
January 29 · Julius MarzukiOrdered a birthday cake for my son’s party. It was so good that even one of my British friend was impressed. If you appreciate a sophisticated balance of flavor in a cake, this place is it.
