Poppy's Bagels Introduce
For many New Jersey locals, the quest for an authentic, delicious bagel is a serious undertaking. The perfect bagel boasts a specific chewiness, a subtle crispness, and a flavor that just screams "home." Within the bustling environment of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), specifically in Terminal C, you'll find Poppy's Bagels, a spot that brings a unique origin story and a commitment to that beloved bagel tradition right to our state's major airport.
Poppy's Bagels isn't just another airport food concession; it's a passion project brought to life by Reesa Kashuk, a New York City native who, after moving to the Bay Area, found herself deeply homesick for a truly great bagel. What began as a humble endeavor, hand-rolling and boiling bagels one at a time in her tiny San Francisco apartment, blossomed into a full-fledged business. With the support of friends and coworkers, Reesa, a former home cook with no prior professional bread experience, managed to cultivate a following and establish Poppy's Bagels as a legitimate contender in the bagel scene. This backstory imbues the establishment with a charming, authentic feel, despite its high-traffic location.
Stepping up to Poppy's Bagels in Terminal C, you'll find a menu designed to cater to a variety of tastes, from classic bagel and spread combinations to more elaborate breakfast and lunch sandwiches. While the fast-paced nature of an airport can sometimes lead to efficiency challenges, Poppy's aims to deliver freshly prepared items. For New Jersey residents traveling through EWR, Poppy's Bagels offers an opportunity to experience a taste of genuine, artisan-crafted bagels with a backstory that resonates with anyone who appreciates dedication to a beloved comfort food.
Poppy's Bagels is strategically situated within Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), specifically at 28 Newark International Airport St, Terminal C, 3 Brewster Rd, Newark, NJ 07114, USA. This places it directly within one of EWR's busiest terminals, making it highly visible and accessible to the thousands of travelers who pass through daily, particularly those flying with United Airlines, which predominantly operates out of Terminal C.
For New Jersey residents, accessing Poppy's Bagels is tied to their travel through EWR. If you are departing from or arriving into Terminal C, or have a connecting flight, the bagel shop is conveniently located for you to grab a bite. Newark Liberty International Airport is well-connected to various parts of New Jersey and the broader metropolitan area through an extensive network of public transportation. NJ Transit trains and buses offer direct routes to EWR, and ample parking facilities are available for those driving. Once inside the airport, clear signage and internal shuttle services help guide passengers to Terminal C.
It's important to note that Poppy's Bagels, being located within Terminal C past the security checkpoints, is primarily accessible to ticketed passengers. This means that for New Jersey locals who are not flying but are at the airport (e.g., dropping off or picking up), direct access to Poppy's Bagels might be limited to pre-security dining options. However, for the vast number of New Jersey residents who do fly, Poppy's offers a convenient and dedicated option for a fresh bagel experience before their journey.

Authentic Bagel Craftsmanship: The origin story of Poppy's Bagels, founded by a New York City native who missed truly great bagels, speaks to a commitment to authenticity. The bagels are hand-rolled and kettle-boiled, a crucial process for achieving that classic New York/New Jersey bagel texture.
Wide Variety of Bagels and Spreads: They offer an extensive range of traditional bagel flavors and numerous cream cheese options, ensuring there's something for every preference, from classic plain to more adventurous flavored cream cheeses.
Comprehensive Menu: Beyond just bagels, Poppy's provides a full breakfast and lunch menu, including a wide array of egg sandwiches, deli sandwiches, paninis, salads, and soups, making it a versatile dining option within the airport.
Convenient Airport Location: Being located in Terminal C of Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) makes it a practical choice for travelers. The kiosk ordering system is designed for efficiency in a busy environment.
Owner's Passionate Background: The story of Reesa Kashuk, a home cook who perfected her bagel recipe out of homesickness, adds a personal and relatable touch to the business, appealing to those who appreciate a genuine culinary journey.
Fair Pricing for an Airport: Despite being in an airport, some customers have noted that the pricing is "fairly priced for an airport," suggesting good value given the location's typical premium.
It is important to note, however, that customer reviews frequently highlight significant issues with service speed. Repeated mentions of "slooowwww service," long waits (up to 20 minutes for a single bagel), and observations of staff in the back not visibly contributing to the speed of service are consistent themes. This suggests that while the quality of the food aims to be high, the operational efficiency might not always meet the demands of a fast-paced airport environment. Customers in a hurry for flights are advised to consider the potential for extended wait times.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Owned and operated by a New York City native who moved to the Bay Area and quickly became homesick for a great bagel. It started incredibly slowly with boiling each hand-rolled bagel one at a time in her tiny SF apartment. With the assistance of friends and coworkers, the rest is history for the owner, Reesa Kashuk, a former home cook with no professional bread experience.Located inside Terminal C of Newark Liberty Airport, I decided to try Poppy Bagels for breakfast this morning. It was made to order via the kiosks which I ordered the Turkey, Avocado, Egg Wheat Bagel. Luckily a staff member was close by on how to take out the cheese. The warm bagel was a smaller, classic navel shape and tasted bland. The portion was surprisingly huge. It’s fairly priced for an airport. The service was slow considering there were 2 staff. If one is in a hurry to catch a flight, this is not the place.
May 24 · Eloy YipBagel was ok , 3 ⭐ but that's really not worth writing much about.... It's the slooowwww service that is the "highlight" of this establishment. Thankfully I was leaving the airport and was not in a hurry, but waited probably 20 minutes for a single bagel. There were at least another 3-4 customers ahead of me in similar wait. There are two staff out front, and at least two in the back (doing what I can't tell), but dear lord only a total of 4-5 customers waiting at any one time, how can it possibly take 20 minutes to make a bagel 🤣The airport should just terminate the contract of this place. Is "terribly slow service" a clause for breach of contract? 🤣
July 16 · Giang NguyenVery Bad Experience. We requested change of gloves and the lady took her sweet time serving all the order after us first and took us at the very last. Order was of whole everything wheat bagel with vegetable cream cheese and she gave us plain cream cheese and bagel was super burnt could taste charcoal in very first bite. Super disappointed. Ruined morning flight. Who can screw up a simple bagel? These folks can
July 05 · Shreya PandyaQuick bagel spot located in terminal c. I got the BEC bagel and it was delicious. Fairly priced for an airport. Food comes out fairly quickly. Loved the decor and ability to order via tablet
March 25 · Khoi NguyenGenerally underwhelming- ordered egg/cheese on an untoasted onion bagel. Somehow the onion on the bagel was burnt even without being toasted, the bagel itself felt a little stale but I've had worse from the grocery store, just annoying to overpay for here thanks to being in an airport. The QR code menu isn't hard to navigate, but if you're not used to them I can see how it'd be confusing like other reviews say. Service wasn't particularly fast or slow, took ~5min to get my order.
